As soon as I find out if I can get the particular time off, I will be booking a room also.......
I don't think my battered body could tolerate sleeping on the ground anymore.

Not only that but campgrounds tend to be noisy. It would be somewhat quieter in a hotel. And then just like lion lady.....soaking in a nice hot bath...... :)

Wrider, where are these campgrounds you speak of? Are any of them closer than the state park at Dillon Reservoir between Frisco/Silverthorne?

I camped there at Dillon for a week in early June. It was $32/night for a site, but two bikes or more could split the cost. It was quiet. There was NO running water, NO showers. Every day I had to drive to Silverthorne to their Recreation Center and pay $6 for a shower, or trade a couple beers from my cooler with anyone I knew who had a room at the two nearby hotels.

Still, it was a lot of fun, and I didn't mind it...just couldn't afford a room. I've got decent gear and I'm stubborn so I made up my mind to camp and enjoy it, and I did. I really think that there should have at least been spartan showers for the price, though.

Still...it would be great to be nearer the rally itself, and if folks are going in together to make a room affordable....I make a killer grilled cheese!

Alright, first of all, you'll want to head to http://www.recreation.gov and head to the search by map tab.
Then you'll want to go over to Dillon Reservoir, you can find it by finding Denver, then following I-70 west.
Then click the search again button.
I came up with the following list right around Dillon Reservoir.
-Windy Point
-Lowry Campground
-Prospector
-Sapphire Point Overlook
-Heaton Bay
-Peak One

Of all of those, Prospector seems to be the closest to Keystone. It's closed for the 08 season, because of the Pine Beetle infestations, they're removing trees and such, but should be open easily by the 09 season.
Same thing with Lowry campground, but that one seems to be about the same distance from Keystone.

Most campgrounds have the following rules
Two vehicles are included in the camping fee. If you have more than 2 vehicles, you must reserve another site.
Occupy site within 24 or forfeit the site.
All equipment must fit on the site pad.
A fee of $5 for extra vehicles will be collected at the campground.
Please bring your own drinking water.

Although usually there's either a fresh water spigot or a trailer with drinking water brought in...

Let me know if there's anything else I can do!
Oh, I'll have to check on availability and such, but if you want a cheap condo in Breckenridge I might have a contact. It's right on Peak 9 of Breckenridge Ski Resort.

Thanks Wrider, I was on the site last night and saw that the closest camping areas to Breckinridge, Prospector and Lowry, are both closed.

I was hoping there might be a private campground, with showers...but hey, I already know where I can get one in Silverthorne!

So I just called up mom, the resident camping location guru...
It seems that Summit County (where all of this is located) is basically unfriendly to campers unless you have a hard-sided RV. Even when we had our pop-up we weren't welcome when they tried to book spots up there.
Looks like your best bet may be to book a room if those campgrounds don't open up next year.

Forgive me, but am I the only person who thinks that sleeping in a "hard sided RV" is NOT camping, but using a portable hotel room? Sheesh, they all seem to come equipped with more electronic geegaws than my house has... :frusty:

Defeats the whole purpose of being in the woods.
