Well last night I was driving through a local town near me and some guy had a blue LED under his motorcycle facing backwards. This thing was so bright you could barely look at it

He got cut off anyway though *sigh* New Jersey drivers

Sadly, here in Michigan, Blue LED's are not permitted on your vehicle. My bud gets pulled over all the time for them on his VW. He used them as license plate lights. They told him only police cars may have blue lights.


Expensive after a while, so he canned them and got white LED's.

I bet tape would be okay though.

I actually bought a set of those valve lights. I haven't gotten them yet, and the bike is out at the shop anyway.

I figured, at that price, I could try them out and see how I felt about them.

I think they will make the outline of my wheel glow - and give people to the sides of me the chance to actually see something.

I am also considering some of the super-reflective tape.

I am that 1 in 20 rider with very light colored jacket.

I'm also looking in to turn signals in the license plate holder, and signals that could go under the mirrors. Some of the ones I've been looking at use 'taps' in to existing wiring - so no soldering or cutting of wires.

But they aren't cheap, so I haven't jumped on those yet. The price of failure is pretty small on the valve stem lights.

Well, they were out of neon puke green, so I got blue. I wasn't even thinking of the police angle or I would have gone and looked harder for yellow.

I am in Northern NJ. No one has mistaken my modulating headlight for a signal to turn. But when I leave it off, I often have people turn left in front of me.

The modulating headlight is legal in 50 states. However, I also have flashing red LED's in the rear that flash for 5 seconds on brake application and then go steady red (Hyper Lites). The State inspection station made me disable them to pass. After passing, I re-enabled them.

I personally have found the modulating headlight to be effective in getting you noticed, which is the goal. I often have people pullng out of driveways in front of me. With the modulator off, they often pull out despite my headlight and 2 auxiliary lights on. However, with the modulator on, No one in the past 3 years has pulled out in front of me. They staert to, see the modulating light, and quickly stop.

You still need to be on your guard, but it reduced the close calls for me.

I recommend them.

They automatically go out when dark and be be turned on or off at will.

I had a chance to test my emergency braking skills today when crazy in a green van tried a left turn of doom. Hit the rear a little hard and had a bit of skidding, but other than that it was a good stop. Geared down, glared at him for a bit until he rolled down his window and said lamely, "I'm trying to turn left." It's a good thing I didn't hit him because my skills test isn't until Wednesday and I'd likely have been blamed.
