in america the only other "sporty" looking starter bike is the gs500f. go take a site on all the bikes. fit is much more important than how the bike looks in your garage.

I disgree, I want a bike that I like to look at. I found another one, the 2008 honda CBR600RR, it looks very nice, but costs 6k more and it a bigger bike.

I understand it's nothing more than ferrings but it's important to me. If I cant find a suitable bike that looks nice then I wont be getting one.

Well, we want the number of riders to increase on a more permanent basis than just a few days... It is nice chatting with people on the web and sometimes meeting them IRL. So I wouldn't go for a CBR600RR until you have a good amount of experience.

Suzuki GS 500

I weigh a little over 200 lbs. It pulled me around very very quickly. Though mine was the naked version, aka the cool one.

I started out on a CBR600 as well. Not a good idea.

I would like to be a rider for more than a few days

I'm getting a lot of BS from one of the brother-in-law's. Suggesting I get a 600 because he taught himself on a cbr600 a few years ago and has been riding ever since.

Will the 2008 ninja 250R carry me with no problems? I only want to do about 80-85 on the freeway. The specs claim the bike will carry 383 pounds, I weight 260. Most my my freeway time will be up hill. There is a section of the freeway that is a steep incline for about a mile. How will the bike handle that?

Right now I have a little 1.6L kia. Only 110 hp. It's sluggish off the line but it can maintain 80-85 when going up the incline. So this 110hp motor has to carry the weight of the car (about 2300 lbs, + me + weight of 11 gal fuel tank). Even when you add the kids and the wife and another person, the car can still maintain a decent speed. So what is the power-to-weight ratio for my kia vs the ninja 250r?

KIA
110HP -> 2560 lbs (base car weight + me)
23 lbs per 1 hp

Ninja 250R
25HP -> 593 lbs (Dry weight of bike + me)
(numbers taken from wikipedia, i did hear the bike had 33hp, does anyone know for sure?)
22 lbs per 1 hp

Well, if you don't tell anybody else, I know the 2007 Ninja 250 can carry my 175 lbs 90 and cruise there on Route 80 on the way home.

But then again, I'm just keeping up with traffic on Route 80 at that speed in NJ. OK, so I'm passing a lot of people, but I was with a group of people (cars) doing 90 on route 80. It got to the point I felt safer at speed than attempting to slow down around them.

Might not be recommended by a few guys here but the Ninja 650r is a good novice/intermediate bike
