i ran over probably 60-75 rabbits in one night alone going from anchorage to fairbanks ......just part of riding in alaska once every seven years ................wb/lt/ca

i dont brake at all for an animal that size.from what i could see looks like he locked the back wheel and it kicked out to the right.

Looks like he seen it coming and was on the binders too hard when he hit.

And if gopher hunting is dealing out bad karma, I was screwed years ago. If I could figure out how to pick them off with my rifle on the bike(without ending up in a firefight with the cops), I would. As it is, tires work pretty well. It's easier with the bike rather than the truck..... You lose sight of the varmits about 15 feet away in the truck, on the bike you can make small corrections right up untill contact is made.

They are vermin. They are running around in record numbers, cattle and horses break legs in thier holes, they eat crops and generally run amok. They need killin'. I need something to shoot at that don't shoot back. It's a good deal all around. Unless your a gopher. But if you are, then you need killin', so it all comes around to rights again.

Alberta is rat-free. That's a fact. Know why? Rats look too much like gophers but don't move fast enough. We got 'em all ages ago.

I dont recommend hitting a sheep though Was in Wales once going round a very sharp bend with a sheep in the road, all I can say is, I'm glad we got good brakes!

Last May a deer ran into the side of my friend's bike, which was running "front door". He hit my friend's wife in the leg, spun around and slid into the ditch on the right side of the road. As he was down, I saw an opportunity to get by him before he possibly got back up and ran into me, as I was just about stopped next to him. Wow, are they fast! As I re-throttled, he sprung from the ditch and ran into my right side. No damage and no injuries and a pretty good chuckle to think the deer got two riders in one incidence. There was also a car full of people approaching who saw the whole thing. Later that summer, as I was leaving my house, another deer jumped from behind some bushes, hitting the right side of my Connie and ripping the saddlebag off. Re-attached the slightly cracked saddlebag and, again, luckily, no other harm done. Both times the deer didn't even knock me down. As I believe, extrenely lucky. Living in the northeast section of Pennsylvania the deer are a constant threat.

thought I'd just get that quip in first!

I do remember hearing about ground squirrel hunting contests in the praries back in the 30's I believe, and 40s. you got points or a nickle or soemthign for every gopher tail you brought in. I do remember seeing a clip on TV about a vacume that sucked gophers right out of the ground by the dozeens..it was pretty cool. Do they taste like chicken?
