My friend was earing one the day he was killed, a women made a left turn right in front of him. they will not save your life as long as people don't know how to drive. I ride as if no one out there know how to drive and I have to watch out for all the cars. I feel the only way to stay alive is to ride smart and always think about what you going to do if someone pulls in front of you. I oce had I lefty in front of me I layed down the bike , mess the bike up , mess my knee up but I am still here. All I can say is it is up to you if you are going to live. Drivers in cars do not care about anyone but them.

I agree with you to a point XBO8. These vests make you more visible in traffic and that's really the best you can do. Some people die in crashes while wearing seat belts too. Doesn't mean I'm going to stop wearing them.
If you think about it drivers in cars are just as important in keeping you alive as you are. What I mean is there is only so much you can do as a biker when you ride defensively. If a semi decides to punt me into the gas station or some old lady pulls out 10 feet in front of me even David Hough won't be able to avoid a collision. Stay on the defensive and as you mentioned always look for an escape route.
