Zeppelin in the quintessential example of heavy metal. They pretty much invented that genre. Heavy metal is Rhythm and Blues rock n rolled to death; which pretty much describes what Zeppelin is.

Sabbath would most definitely be Heavy Metal. They started as a hard rocking Blues Rock band and along with other bands like Zeppelin, & pioneered the advent of Heavy Metal.
True definition of Heavy Metal is a hard rock n roll based on R & B. Or as someone coined it back then, "Rhythm & Blues rock n rolled to death".
