The funny thing is, when the Diavel was first announced, there were tons of threads at the Duc site making fun of the Diavel and the type of person that would buy a bike like that. So much so that one of the moderators made a thread saying that it is imminent that these whole new type of Diavel owners will be coming onto the forum and we need to make them feel welcome and not trash their bikes.

Anyways, based on the current sample size, these new Diavel owners make the average Duc rider look like spring chicken.

So the general consensus amongst the Ducatisti elite is that the Diavel will flop?

I don't think the riding position of the Diavel is radical...it looks to me to be a standard riding position...

And the long distance comfort of this bike is a moot point because it is not going to attract real motorcyclist like you who actually ride. The average buyer will be the mid life crisis poser who will ride to the local Starbucks to swap lies and war stories. Therein lies the Diavel's problem. It is butt ugly looking beyond belief. For a poser bike, ugliness is a fatal flaw.

In fact, I have never participated in any of the Diavel threads at all.

I'm not really sure as I have not really read too much of the Diavel threads. They do love making fun of it though...

What do you think of the rim design? Pretty unique with the reverse triangle (Pie shaped) design. I haven't seen that design on a a Ducati before.

I had a good look at one yesterday at the local motorcycle show. I don't know what it is but it just doesn't grab me style wise like the rest of the Ducati line-up. It just looks too fat.
If someone wants a sport-touring machine they're gonna go for a Monster or a multistrada. If you want a supersport you've got the 848 and the 1198. So where does the Diavel fit in. It does seem to fit in well with the new HD Sportster line-up and we know there's a market for that class of bike. Maybe the problem we're having with the Diavel is it's just not a traditional Ducati. Any week-end daytripper could get along well on a Diavel. Why not? I'm sure it's a great ride.

Beyond ugly. And no way to hide it with the Single sided swing arm. This is the ugliest bike made today and there is not a single nice line on it anywhere. Hopefully it will die a very quick death before it becomes a footnote and a trivia question.

I don't know what the Diavel is trying to be. If I wanted a power cruiser, I'd get a Vrod, it's the quintessential modern power cruiser (I always liked the Midnight Warrior, too.) If I wanted a naked / streetfighter, there's a bunch - Speed Triple 1050, Tuono, Superduke, even a Brutale. Duc Streetfighter is right there in that group too. If I wanted simply the classiest of all modern standards, it's a 8v Griso.

There's always a risk in blurring category boundaries (especially in the North American market). Either you succeed brilliantly, or you flop. Reference the B-King.

Yes, the B-King. I egarly awaited it's arrival into Canada... a naked with the Hayabusa engine in it, what was there not to like? Then I say it and was turned off due to it's bulk. Drat.

The Diavel is no skinny puppy either as mentioned...
