I'd LOVE to see any scooter that can haul 3 bags of concrete...
Or any scooter that can out accelerate my Z750S. Should we run to 50? 75? 120? I'd offer to go higher but you can't.

Getting back on topic.... I think there has been an increase in scooter use here in the midwest at least, and with gas prices expected to hit $5/gallon by June I think we will see more of them. I don't think most scooterists are motoryclists who decide to save on gas cost. I think many if not most of the folks buying scooters are new to the two-wheel fold. I have been a rider for over 30 years, and some time ago when my knees just would not let me lift a leg over the seat of a bike I traded in my Kawa Concours and bought a Honda Silverwing. Now with new knees I am back on a Triumph America. I always felt that I was still a rider when I had the Silverwing, but it never felt quite right. I missed the sound, feel, and look of a real motorcycle. While not having to shift gears was convenient, it took away some of the fun of riding. Should my health or age ever force me to give up a real motorcycle, I would much rather get a scooter again rather than give up riding altogether, or almost as bad, use a trike (other than possibly the Can-Am). And by the way, my scooter gave me about 50 mpg, while my motorcycle gives me about 45 mpg. Not enough difference to amount to much at all.

vito? same here have been riding for 30 years too, even as a kid on dirt bikes and atv's, its a passion in my blood that I will love to do till the day I die. I admit I get angry when some new guy just learning how to ride cuts me down based on what I ride, but I always do my best to avoid those people and control my anger. I liked it better 20 years ago before motorcycles became popular, today its like a circus, it drives me crazy when I see a family man dressed for work in a business suit then on the weekends he transforms himself into a tough guy looking biker! I don't like pretend people or people just owning a bike as an image adjustment. Why should I be afraid to stop at a local roadside bar for a burger and beer riding my scooter when there are HD's parked there? I'm not! But I get sooo tired of exchanging insults about each others bike, and I have learned not to knock their teeth down their throat cause I get charged, go to jail and they sue me, these guys are just not worth it, I know these guys are not tough guys, they just pretend to be tough guys just because what bike they ride,,,, i get so sick and tired of seeing that all the time, I just want left alone to ride my scooter in peace, I just come here to post seraching for understanding thinking others have the same problem.

everybody thinks just because you ride a scooter that you're a beginner, you can't clutch and shift gears, you're afraid of a big bike, maybe some guys are but not me! We have motorcycle poker runs where they raise money for a charity maybe for a sick child with cancer, I was told I could not enter the poker run cause I ride a scooter. Their reason because my scooter was too slow and wouldn't be able to keep up causing a dangerous situation, It was no use explainning to them that my scooter is more than capable and was faster than most bikes here, the real reason is the other riders didn't want to look bad being seen riding with a scooter... so I publicly embarressed them by shouting out in a loud voice so everybody could hear saying "Is this poker run for the sick child with cancer or is it for everybody to look good riding their tough guy bikes"?" Its terrible you people have to use the sick child as an excuse just to show off thinking your a tough guy riding ur big HD"

My sidecar holds more stuff than your scooter, my s1000 gets to 60 in under 3 seconds and I don't shift till ~80mph. Theres plenty of time to shift while waiting for you to catch back up. My Vstrom can out corner you and take me more places. My gasgas is weirder looking than your scooter. However, scooter riders are still fine by me. Fun fact in Virginia your machine is still a motorcycle. I hope that doesn't ruin your image

The V Strom is a great bike, I did ride the 1000 V Strom, but I don't like the junky sounding engine noise both the 650 and 1000 V Stroms make, and my scooter is an engineering work of art with the bottom center location of the gas tank allowing a center lower center of gravity that greatly improves handling and even if i don't have the speed of the V Strom I will match you and even pass you on any tight hair pin curve, while you are slowing down and down shifting before you enter a curve I am accelerating. I have taken the best top of the line crotch rockets and passed them at the tightest point of a curve, I understand that they may not be as a skilled rider as me, but they have 4 times the speed as my scooter. I understand you was never on a Yamaha Tmax and you don't take my word how well it handles, but in the past I have owned the Honda CRB600R and the Yamaha FZ6 and I am very skilled rider and my Yamaha Tmax is a much better tight curve bike than those bikes. I never owned a better handling bike than the Yamaha Tmax, what the novice, beginner rider doesn't understand the extreme handling and easy to ride ability would make him look like an expert rider. Thats my pet-peeve! Tooo many cut down my Tmax but they never rode one, I don't want anybody mad at me but if you would ride one you would be amazed!

yea ,, a sidecar is great for holding stuff ,, but it has no lid or cover to protect what you carry home, I have 2 spaces on my scooter, underseat storage and a rear 50 liter topcase, and if I need extra space I can tie something down on the rear seat, plus i can remove my rear topcase and have a big flat rack where I can fit a 42" big screen TV or a new lawnmower, (yes,, I have hauled an assembeled lawnmower on my back rack) One problem I do admit is it gets hot under the seat storage so you can't haul ice cream there cause it will melt,,, oh yea, my topcase is also waterproof where I can fill it with ice and beer for a party, its big enough to hold an extra large pizza box flat,, oh yea, I also have 2 front glove boxes, not very big but can hold many things,, also my suspension can handle a 250 lb woman riding on the back and she uses the topcase as a backrest and i can still go 70 mph on a steep mountain grade with her on the back,, think of my Tmax as a mini Gold Wing,,,,forgive me for going on and on,,, but I LOVE my Tmax sooooo much!

Great joke! I don't shift in turns unless they are sweepers. As an experienced and skilled rider I bet you knew that!
The sidecar actually does have a top. I can fit a cart of groceries in there with room to spare. There's also a compartment by the seat to cover another trip worth of goodies. Best yet, I can take the sidecar off and put whatever I want on the platform. I've put the Vstrom on there, a kayak, and a rail and tripod system for filming heck there's more than enough room for you tmax and look at all the extra storage I get!
250 lbs is great. I'm into bigger. Chicks too! One can sit behind me with a backrest and the other can lounge out in the sidecar. My heavy duty suspension still has room for groceries in either the bags or sidecar compartment. 70 uphill? That's nice but with chicks on board I pass people at 90 uphill, that way more people can see how cool I am.
