6:30 AM, Saturday, October 22nd, 2011.....been woken up by the sound of a torrential downpour. Sounds like you are going to need your rain gear today matey. But then, I figure if you can learn to ride in these conditions, you will be miles a head of the majority of fair weather only squids. Good luck today and have fun.

It's early and wet. Oh well, our instructor last night did say she was hoping it rained so we'd have the experience. They supply rain gear, hope it's good. I start at noon so a few hours yet

Ayup, you lucked out today. At 8:30 I decided to take a short walk to the local MickyD's to get some breakfast, it was still raining out but there was a hint of blue skies off to the south. By the time I got home again 20 minutes later, the rains had stopped and blue skies were shinning. So, tell us how was the first day on a real bike?

Fantastic, except the sun in Vancouver was a downpour in Langley for a good part of the day so I'm pretty soaked, very sore and I hate my boots. Too new and too thick to get much of a feel for the shifter but rear brake isn't too bad. Never even came close to losing control but I could feel that I was tired and getting sloppy near the end. Tomorrow is more practice, more learning and the N
Msa. Looking forward to it but wishing I had better boots. It's really really fun to ride :)

Can't wait to get on my bike!

Good boots can make a world of difference. Yours are probably still too new and haven't been broken in yet. I find that when I buy a new pair, it takes a couple of week to break them in and to get comfortable enough to shift and brake properly.

I currently have a pair of these:

Fly Racing Sport Touring Boots, one of the best pair of boots I have ever owned and the only pair that actually live up to its claim of being waterproof. I have ridden in torrential downpours with them on, and my feet stayed fairly dry. But they did take a couple of weeks to break in. You can get them off the web but are bloody expensive, I would suggest that you wait until the up-coming Vancouver bike show in Abbotsford before you splurge on new kit. There are some good deals on gear at that show, I walked away with a pair of leather over-pants, a new HJC helmet and those boots for less then C$250.
