I don't make jokes about Texas, I'm afraid one of the residents might eat me. Them's some large people!EatenbyAsphalt wrote:Ah yes, here comes the string of comments about my beloved Texas. Funny thing is, I don't have to defend Texas. All I have to do is looking at the comments of those who are jealous of Texas. See, all you have to do is walk into a room and say the word "Texas" and the haters come out with all their nasty comments about such a great place to live. The haters are always comparing us to some place else in the country, like Alaska, see if the U.S. were to split Alaska into two states, yeah Texas would be the nation's third largest state right behind one state with a population equal to a burrough in New York and another state populated by polar bears and otters. I think it is even better when the haters come up with comparing Texas to another country. Well, see I don't take that as an insult, the best you got is to compare a state in the U.S. to an entirely other country. So, cast your divisive comments at me all you wish. My ego still stands, unbroken like the brave souls of the Alamo.

Re: That guy you warned your daughter about
Never been there, but I thought about moving to New Mexico...but in reality it would probably be quite similar to living in Alberta (except for winter...and really, who'd miss that?) but wifey wasn't too interested...I thought a 12month riding season would be awesome, and you would learn to deal with the heat...just like winter here...and being a oil & gas electrician, I think there may be opportunity...
The only negative thing for me would be religion, since it isn't part of my life and it seems to be a large part of Texan life (yes, hearsay) and the amount of guns...I'm just not a fan of guns...but every state I go to, I'm always impressed with how friendly everyone is...Canadians are jerks! kinda...(and yes, I'm one...born in Vancouver General...)
Later.

Re: That guy you warned your daughter about
I too have never been to Texas but my father went there on business a few times in the seventies (Texas Instruments).
He being Scottish was quite affable & he got on very well with his Texan hosts. He was invited to dinner at home by a couple of colleagues & the families were most welcoming.
He did comment that the breakfasts were particularly large & we never had steak dinners at home for ages after his trips
The only problem I had with his Texan adventures was when we met him off the plane after one trip. I was quite young & excited about seeing Daddy after a few weeks away. However, when I saw him coming down the aircraft steps wearing some hideous yellow check golfing trousers & an equally garish shirt I was so embarrassed I ran away to the loo & wouldn't go to the gate to meet him as planned. He kindly brought me some similar jeans & as I recall I never wore them!

If you come to Texas, remember 2 things, never discuss politics or religion. Otherwise, you should have a fine time.

I'd have a bad time anywhere talking about religion and politics. I'd rather talk about music, food, and motorcycles.

Wow, I was so entertained by this whole thread I just read it from top to bottom and even read sections of it out to Mike! This is some seriously funny junk. Woohoo!!!

Being a new Texan (2 1/2 months here now) I have to seriously agree with this comment. Was sitting at breakfast with a lovely old couple on Saturday and our server invited us all to her church. Then the old couple and her went on and on about how their bodies here on earth are provided to them by God and their life on earth is just a wrinkle in the vast lifetime they will really live. Wow, we just sat there and nodded and smiled. Then they asked us if we would be joining them for church....awkward...EatenbyAsphalt wrote:If you come to Texas, remember 2 things, never discuss politics or religion. The correct answer is "Maybe, we're still new and trying to find a church that fits us well."sunshine229 wrote:Wow, I was so entertained by this whole thread I just read it from top to bottom and even read sections of it out to Mike! This is some seriously funny junk. Woohoo!!!![]()

Re: That guy you warned your daughter about
a better one would of been, "Love too, what time does the nekkid dancing around the old Elm Tree begin and do we have to bring our own virgin to sacrifice or are they supplied?"....... this answer alone will guarantee you will never be bothered by awkward invitations to church ever again....or meals for that matter.sunshine229 wrote:LOL good one Wrider!!!
