So ... what's your point? Stealing a TV is
not murder, and yet you're advocating capital punisment for it? How does that fit into your eye for an eye scheme?
Seems like you slept through your logic courses, dude.

Like I said, show me the due process for punishment for the crime of looting. If martial law is declared, which is likely, show me how looters are treated in that situation, too, according to the prevailing legal system at the time.

i am waiting to hear the bleeding heart "dont shoot the looters"explanation for the rapes now occurring in new orleans.i guess it is ok to steal that too.anarchy and mob rule can be stopped by bullets.

Evidently martial law went into effect yesterday. Under martial law, citizens have no civil rights, police are given broad powers of arrest and meting out roadside justice, and mirandizing suspects is not required. New Orleans police have been given instructions to "do whatever it takes" to stop looters. That ought to cover just about everything. They aren't being as aggressive about people stealing food, however.

The latest is that alot of cops are turning in their badges. They've lost pretty much everything, so why should they risk losing their lives to a bunch of animals over some stolen goods?
It's fascinating really to see the complete breakdown of civil society.
I guess we're really not that far from animals.
These people decided that they didn't want any more civil society. I think they should just cordon off the city and let nature take its due course. Mama Nature started this one, let her finish it.

Problem is there's too many GOOD people who need and deserve help; the few bad apples are f*cking it up for everyone else.

Amen Gummiente. I'm disappointed when I see people say to let them rot because people shot at the rescue helicopters. The problem is the shooters could have been 3 people out of 50,000 and we're ready to throw out the good with the bad.

They shut down the entire rescue operation down for a time in order to stop the looting. So what's more important - Human lives or rolex watches. I'm simply toeing the government line. Money IS more important than people. Let the people rot. Shoot anyone on the street and let them rot. Nieman Marcus has an insurance policy that we need to protect.
That's the greatest American value and the image we've been presenting to the world for decades. Now we're finally seeing the effects of that policy within our own borders. Good people or bad people, who the hell cares? They aren't worth anything, since they didn't have anything to begin with.
The best part is (This is really good) Many of the people who have nothing are stealing from others who have nothing - Like the truck carrying Hospital supplies that was carjacked - denying vital meds and what have you to people languishing in a hospital.
Jonathan Swift would be proud - as a matter of fact, I believe he has a modest proposal for those who are starving in New Orleans.
The above is sarcasm
At any rate. Nothing will change. No lessons will be learned here, but we will wind up spending billions to to allow people to move back to their home 10 feet under seal level between a lake and a river on the edge of the ocean. Human folly is immeasurable. Nature warns us and we don't listen. Just like the present day Neapolitans who live on the slopes of Vesuvius. Yes, There are innocents in New Orleans. You should be down there helping them.
