that's a actually a pretty good idea, but easy to spot. (even if its under the eat, right when they open it up to take it apart they'll know its there)

But once they've found it you'd have already known the bike was stolen and by that time you've already traced their location and gathered up a blockful of your Yakuza/Triad/Russian Mafiya/Mexican Mafia/Mob/Street Gang/Neighbor/ or whoever you hang out with friends who by that time would be standing outside their warehouse getting ready to lay some major hurt.

A thief will likely think "free phone" instead, however.

Do the best you can and have good insurance. I'd say a good chain or cable lock, a disk lock, and a cover make it hard for someone to sneak in and take your bike if it is view of others. Even at night when less people are around, you want to make it had to quickly yank the bike away. I have an anchor point attached to the ground where I park my bike and chain it to to the ground, cover it up with a good bike cover, and figure if someone wants it bad enough, I can't stop them really. I'd rather not think of paying my $500 deductable, but it is better than the cost of the whole bike. If they want it though, you won't be able to stop them. Also, buying a less "wanted" bike will help. Older and less sought after bikes are rarely stolen, even with no security measures at all. I bet some guys on this site could leave there keys in the bike.
