Just to get a bit BACK on TOPIC....he he....I did almost the same thing you did vulcanman500!
Only when the bike tipped I hung on to the handlebar & arched my back to try to counterbalance the weight of the bike....& laid it down real gentle onto the concrete, saved my bike but really hurt my back!!
But that's what YOU do right? Throw your body under the bike to protect it? Well that's what we USED to do anyway.
The other day I nearly dropped the Roadking whilst backing it into a carport, there was some fine grit on the concrete & my foot slipped out from under me

& for a second there I had that GUT feeling of...."Oh NO here we go"....but somehow I managed to save it....PHEW! Even then I know I went red in the face,

even though no-one was around.

The link worked for me, but it could be something odd.
Here is the COMPLETE link rather than defaulting to index.html

I am signed up for The Rider's Edge class 14-18 April. I have to carry on with my humdrum office life until then!
In a year (or two) I intend to buy a H-D Sportster (R version):

OK Link worked!
& having read your page I'd wait a while before deciding to buy a Sportster.
I'd recommend a second hand (Low Miles) 2000 on up, 'DYNA'-Superglide or Lowrider. They are still small-ish machines but are more of an in between model that is more versatile. The Sportster (which my wife & I ride) is OK for 'shorter stature' beginners but because the bike has a short wheelbase it's not the smoothest to ride & is very limited in it's uses. TRUST ME HERE.
The Dyna-glide is Rubber mounted & will be smoother than the Sporty, plus it will do everything you need from the word go....Including City riding to Touring, where-as the Sporty will be great for Zipping around the neighbourhood & perhaps the city but will not cut it very well for touring, which you will want to do eventually.
Once you have a few more miles under your belt & your skills & confidence levels improve....ride your Blast over to a Harley open DEMO day & try a few bike models out & see what you think.
After owning about 8 Harleys, right across the Harley model range, from Sporty to Ultra Classic....My choice for the best 'all round' Harley is my 2000 Roadking.
Cheers, AL.
