Wrider wrote:Wow... The repo agent was actually being illegal if they said to go away and he didn't. Legally they cannot take the vehicle if the person who it is getting repossessed from says to go away or get off the property or anything to that effect. Doesn't always work granted, but it is the law.

umm I dont know what law your talking about cause this is the first I have EVER heard that. not saying your wrong just saying I have never heard that before. I do know that a warrant will fix that issue though lol.

At least here in CO that's the law. I know probably a good half dozen repo guys and usually they end up having to do it in the middle of the night or while the vehicle is out of sight/earshot to get it.

Aside from a nice ride to work and back....I installed some cabinet hardware and a new door knob, did some gardening and then cleaned up the aftermath of drains that backed up....

My place looks almost good again.

i'M on the wait list again for surgery - after going down monday night - it's taken me this long to even write it down - any advice would be appreciated - i'm feeling totally overwhelmed and wrecked - i was going 12 mph got stuck between two cars -it was pulling out of a stoplight when there is a lane merge the car behind me was on my rear tire, and the one in front suddenly slammed on his brakes, i hit mine, swerved , avoided hitting anyone, but went down - broke my leg in three places - tib/fib/ partially shattered the ankle in the joint and broke my right thumb and will need pins there as well. feeling horrible loss of control and punishment - everyone is yelling at me for riding to begin with - no matter what i was wearing, or how safe i was driving, i went down hard... and this was at a low speed - what if i had been going 40? please share your experience with me if you are willing - i need some help friends - feeling really heavily freaked out. wrider has already helped me - thanks! you can pm me if you don't want to write here. I dont even know if my bike is totalled. I've invested so much of my time in this newly dsicovered passion, and at the end of the day, all the books, parking lot practice, and sage advice still has me in the hospital looking at 5-10 month full recuperation time.

i was wearing full helmet, mesh jacket w/armor, draggin jeans with knee/hip pads, and heavy duty steel shank padded ankle timberlands.

thanks everyone!

please forgive any over-the-top tones here - i dont mean them ... just really shaken up... and if there is a better place for this post mike, just move it ok?

That sucks, Dude.

First off, up the calcium intake.

As for the rest, it's all in your mindset. Crashing a bike is crapshoot. I've come off at 70+ to a simple drop at walking speeds in my 28 years on the street. All I ever got was roadrash and sore muscles, until I hit the ground last year at 10 MPH. Then I broke my shoulder in the pussiest of all my falls..... Logically, the faster I am going when I fall, the safer.

The best thing I can recommend about the people riding your azz about riding a bike...... Screw 'Em. They can live their life anyway they like, you live yours the way you want. If riding gives you pleasure, then ride, dammit. You can get hurt just as badly in the shower, statistically, you are more likely to do that than take another hit on the bike. And then you have lay there wet and nekkid waiting for the EMT's..... I'd rather wait for them dressed and with a better story to tell afterwards. But that's just me. You can decide what works better for you.....

At the end of the day, is riding worth the risk to you? Everything has some risk, you just have to decide what level you are willing to accept. Everyone who doesn't ride will call you crazy for riding, but really, WTF do they know? Some people actually like playing golf.... :puke: to each their own......

At the speed you fell, your bike is probably not a write off, unless someone ran over it afterwards. Cosmetic damage is easily fixed. I wouldn't waste energy fretting over that part.

Good luck with the surgeries, heal up soon.

Sorry to hear this, zelig. It sucks, no other way to put it. Hope the surgery is successful, and best wishes for your recovery. After healing, you may have some work to do regaining full function - PT and so forth. Physical therapists are sadists, but (usually) they are on your side (B2C's experience notwithstanding). Be patient and persistent, and odds are you'll come through pretty much good as new.

As far as the "should I ride again" question..... table it. You can't ride at the moment, you probably won't have to confront this question until next year. So table it for now. If your bike is stored somewhere pending repairs, just make sure it gets de-fueled and the battery disconnected.

Thank goodness you were ATGATT. You'd have more to contend with if you hadn't been.

As far as what happened? Two clues:
zeligman wrote:the car behind me was on my rear tire, and the one in front suddenly slammed on his brakes
Feeling the pressure from the car behind, were you following the car in front a little too closely? When dealing with a tailgater, it's best to increase following distance.

zeligman wrote:i hit mine, swerved , avoided hitting anyone, but went down
Usually you can brake, or you can swerve. Not both. You ran out of traction. It's hard as hell to overcome the natural reaction, but you must EITHER swerve and head for your escape hole (the one we're always supposed to have identified; remember SIPDE?) or keep the bike straight and threshold brake. Simple. But not easy. But necessary.

Best wishes, hang in there, dude.

I always flip the person behind me off when they are riding that close. 9 times out of 10 they back off. Then again when they goto pass I speed up on the bike cause I know its faster than their pos toyota prius they are driving. which is not safe in any way shape or form.
