Price.

Well, price if Windows wasn't so bloody easy to get illegal copies of.

I've said I'm done with the linux discussion in this thread. Start another thread and I can continue to prove your FUD wrong and backup my point that linux is a choice. No fanboyism there, just truth.

I'm annoyed that I bought my MacBook not too long ago and now Apple has released one based on the lower power consuming cooler running Penryn Core 2 Duo processor. Now instead of my Macbook running 4:30 hours it can go for 5+... :frusty:

Plus Apple offers student discounts and a basic MacBook Pro runs $1800 instead of $2000... I should've waited for that instead.

As for your question Blues you should opt for 2GB minimum if you're to run Photoshop, 3 - 4 GB to be the sweet spot. I would also suggest a Core 2 Duo or Core 2 Quad Core instead of AMD since it shows to be a better performer for intensive tasks (for now I miss the Athlon 64 days). You should also opt for a discrete graphics option such as AMD/ ATI HD2400 or nVidia GeForce 8400. Best Buy has plenty of PCs with this config and some are even including 3GB of RAM for the same price as 2GB.
One thing you can count on: You push a man too far, and sooner or later he'll start pushing back.

2GB min for a computer. If I was in a position to be able to financially afford to upgrade I would go with 4gb but I game and game alot. very few games out there dont run on linux and yes I prefer to run games on linux than windows because not only do they run more efficiently they run faster and you get better pings due to the nature of how linux does networking. yes you can run the games that dont run on linux using wine but thats stupid so thats why I do have a windows partition for the rare game that wont run in linux without using wine.

With that said isnt microsoft coming out with a new OS here shortly since VIsta wasnt all it was "cracked" up to be? Meaning it didnt turn out how MS wanted it to. Sorry I am behind a few pages but noticed blue's post so wanted to point out that she should get min 2 gb of ram lol.

Thanks for the feedabck on RAM, everyone.

I believe my computer can add only another stick of 512. It would do for the time being until I can afford a new system.
What are the stats on your current system? It may be worth upgrading just the memory if the rest of it suits your needs fine. If you know the processor and motherboard information, I (or others) can even point you at a site to tell you the exact type you need to buy so you can price shop it.
I will take a look and tell you.

Hey....I found my system online....complete with a picture and specs.

Just have to click on the specifications tab.

I can expand the memory up to a gig.

aahh ok I thought you were upgrading everything. 1gb will help you out quite a bit over 512mb.

I do plan to upgrade everything later. I can't afford it right now. The extra memory will do in the interim.

I wish I could afford to upgrade as well but alas my wife and I have vowed to be debt free in 6 years and that means no buying of new toys =[.

Being debt free is more important than the latest and greatest. Heck...my car is 1994 with a tape deck/radio in it.
We learn to like what we have. I like my computer...it is just inadequate but the extra memory should solve it.

I generally use things until they really don't work anymore or they have outlived their usefulness.
