At On Yer Triumph they revved it hard and detected smoke in the exhaust. What might be causing it they won't know till they crack it open. It might be rings or valves or... I'm no mechanic, so I wouldn't know, but it seems clear that oil is getting into the chamber somehow.
To be fair to Lings, I revved it too and didn't notice anything. I suspect it has been getting gradually worse. It was Lings's attitude more than their failure to detect the problem that p1ssed me off. And this isn't the first time that I've had the impression that their communication is not the best.
Lings have been around for a while but they used to have a joint dealership: they did Triumph and Honda. Recently, they ditched Honda and now only do Triumph. That's probably a big change for them and they feel like a new set-up still trying to find its feet.
I get the impression that Triumph are working very hard on brand identification and want all their dealers to dedicate themselves solely to their marque. Since I bought the Daytona, I've been getting loads of Triumph stuff through the post. It's quite high pressure marketing. As the sole surviving British motorcycle firm of any size and clout they are probably in a good position here in the UK to demand brand loyalty. They like to plaster the Union Jack over everything (bikes, clothing) and play on nationalist feeling.
Sorry, Roscowgo, I realised you must have meant the Daytona, not the Bonnie, but thought you were making a joke about the kids disgnosing the problem. Just put it down to the misty eyes of a doting grand-dad.

You know how the past can sometimes sneak up behind you and give you a nasty bite on your ankles.
Well, I was clearing out my attic a few nights ago and I came across an old Manchester bus pass of mine from 1975. In 1975 I was doing what most self-respecting twenty-somethings were doing: I was dropping out. I was dossing round Manchester and working part-time as a community worker which was fun and it gave me the impression that I was being very 'alternative' and radical. I was also knocking around with a bunch of anarchists and social workers (somehow anarchists and social workers seemed to go together in my mind at the time; looking back, I'm not sure how.
)
The bus pass gave me a bit of a shock.
I'm not sure why I'm posting this except that it strikes me as very funny.
Anyway, just to get a bit of context, here's a photo of me from a couple of years ago (I've just posted it in the mugshots thread). Apart from a couple of pics in my helmet and in India this is the most recent photo I can find (and am prepared to post).
And...
here's the bus pass shot...

At the time I didn't have a motorcycle or a bicycle and I had broken up with my girlfirend about six months previously.
