Thank you.In Flanders Fields
By: Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, MD (1872-1918)
Canadian Army
IN FLANDERS FIELDS the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

Wow I just read a few of these pages and lot of info.
1 question though.
Why are you using a helicoil instead of Keenserts? I only ask because I have had more problems with helicoils eventually coming out whereas I have never had a Keensert come out. Now granted I have to deal with people who have to touch anything and everything before I get to it and then I have to figure out what was changed/adjusted/messed with before fixing it so that is one reason I use Keenserts but just curious as to why you use them.
Also that Cresent wrench is NOT the right tool for the job
. I have screwed up a couple times using a crescent wrench by going in at an angle. So then I spent the $10 to buy the correct tapping tool (I cant think of the name right off hand) for the job. I used one with the handle that can slide left to right in case you are in a spot that is hard to get to. Kind of like

I used a heli coil because that's what we have.
I didn't take those pictures, I used a correct tap and handle set to make the new threads.

actually you are right there isnt a proper job for a crescent wrench however I am in the same habit. It is easier to take 1 tool than 4 or 5 tools (especially if your not quite sure of the bolt size). Also makes for a good extra leverage on breaking hex heads looseSkier wrote:I was told there is never a proper job for a crescent wrench.ofblong wrote: Also that Cresent wrench is NOT the right tool for the job.
That said, I use them way too much.

sevulturus sorry I assumed some where pics you took and some were pics that you just looked for. My bad. If helicoil is all you have then no biggie I was just curious. I dont like to use helicoil unless thats my only option. its not difficult to install them but its not dificult for someone to rip part of the coild out and screw up some of the threads.

Skier, sorry it took so long to get back to you about the stands. I bought this one and brought it with me to class. Just a basic paddock stand with paddle lifters. It cost me $80 Canadian. You can get a bobbin type one, but that involves drilling holes into the swing arm, then countersinking them to make sure that the weight of the bike doesn't tear the bobbins out of the soft aluminum. Yikes! Not a cheap mistake.
As for my bike? Now that I have the swing arm back together I start pulling apart other stuff. Pulled the tank off and removed the petcock, found a lot of "precorrosion" and some spot rust on the inside of the tank, plus a bunch had caught in and around the fuel filter! Took a long time to coax that filter out.

It wasn't THAT bad, and that's the problem with taking something like that apart... once you know, can you really just let it go? The bike probably would have been okay, but can you really just leave it knowing that something is wrong?
So get all the gas out, and spray some WD40 in there (most of the rust washed off) and it'll prevent further corrosion from happening. I'm going to bring the tank home and wash/polish the outside real good tomorrow hopefully.
ofblong, if you're going to do it, you might as well do it right and remove the part in question so you can hold it perfectly level, which means you should have the clearance to swing the right tool.

lol well kinda hard to do when you have a line down and that would require 4 hours of removing parts to get that one part out or the part is too big (we have things that way quite a few tons) to move
. Now for easy to remove parts yeah I take it out and make sure its lvl
.
