Thanks Loonette and Sweet tooth. I was at my sisters tonight so I didn't get a chance to do anything yet.
However, here is one as an appetizer.
That's my bike at the last view point of Crater Lake before we headed down the highway to Bend.
We knew we had to leave because the sun would be going down soon and we didn't like the idea of being in the dark on a twisty highway where there might be animals wandering around.

I just started riding about a month and a half ago, and the farthest my husband and I have gone in one day is 247 miles two weekends ago. It was a blast. Florida has some very beautiful landscape.

It's intresting to look back at the posts from just a few months back as a noobie... My tips have slowly gotten longer, i'm looking forward to a 700 mile trip this weekend.

For anyone who thinks only BMW's are for long rides, I've got news for you. I ride an '85 Low Rider, no windshield, radio or fairing. In 2000 I rode from New Hampshire to Sturgis. I rode 400 miles a day, and slept in campgrounds each night. 2,037 miles one way, 1000 miles while in the Sturgis area, plus the ride home!
In 2003, I moved from New Hampshire to Phoenix. I rode there, solo. 2,500 miles. 9 days later, I rode with a group from Phoenix to Sturgis. 4,300 miles in three weeks time.
This summer I am riding to Sturgis again, with my boyfriend. It will be his first long ride.
Can't wait!

Your first long trip you can expect to feel tired. When the body is used to short jaunts, the body will feel exhausted after several hours. I remember my first long day......I was so tired when I got home I didn't have the energy for a shower. I konked out for awhile.
Once you get a few long days under your belt, the tiredness starts to diminish.

Last month I put just over 7,000 miles on my bike, all in one trip, alone. I rode from GA to CA, down the coast to San Diego, and then back across the sourthern route. My longest day was 650 miles. I always ran out of daylight before I was ready to stop riding. You gals are right, stop riding before you have to! Find a safe place to sleep before dark, for sure.
My ride is a Kawasaki Concours, another long-legged touring machine that loves the twisties. I like in-line four engines much better than twins, and the BMW's just don't "do it" for me, but they're fine motorcycles.
I believe a big factor for anyone, and especially a woman, riding a long way is the ability to take care of the bike. Knowing how to plug a tire, troubleshoot simple but common electrical problems, replace a clutch or throttle cable, and above all, *bump-start a bike* , make for a level of confidence that lets us enjoy the ride without worrying so much.
