In a car I generally go 5mph over speedlimit on freeways...and I drive what's posted on surface streets. In my area it's heavily patroled, and I'm not allowed to receive any tickets.

On a bike, pretty much same on surface streets, but on freeways I go about 10-15 mph over posted speeds because that is what everyone else is going on a carpool lane...I don't want to "pee" anyone off in the carpool lane and become road pizza.

if I am not trying to get somewhere quick (most of the time I cruise like this, better time planning and gas money) I'll go right around the speed limit, up to about 5mph faster. if I am in a hurry its usually 10-15mph faster. I se the bike at 80mph indicated, 72 actual, on the highway, faster for passing but 80 or less for cruising

I keep it to about 5 km/hr over the limit in town (well, I really try anyways) because Medicine Hat pretty much has the highest per capita photo radar fleet ON EARTH. It's brutal.

I just got back from a trip to Sicamous, BC, which is a 1600 km round trip. Went there on Friday and came back on Sunday. There was no shortage of people in cars speeding like madmen, so I always had one or two “scouts” out in front me of going about 140-150 km/hr. It made the trip a little more tolerable. heh

Oh, and I don't really speed in the cage. I don't want to "waste" a ticket in the friggin' minivan.

I don't exceed the speed limit. If I am 5 over it is on the freeway and only because all other traffic is traveling at excessive speeds. There's absolutely no reasonable cause for driving over the speed limit; I laugh at the folks who do, because I just see them again 10 miles down the road somewhere. There are conditions where it is safe to drive over the posted limit (like on empty highways) but for the most part, it is unsafe and pointless. Anyone who says otherwise is just kidding themselves.

Me! Because usually the ones going fast are also the ones all mad and bent out of shape about traffic, getting road rage, honking and tailgating, hating everyone around them.

some people just don't get the need for speed and there's nothing wrong w/ it as long as they are not below the speed limit.

i just find a way to pass them.

There is such a thing as a minimum speed limit. It's usually 15 under the speed limit. So if you're going 40mph on a highway with a speed limit of 60mph on purpose the cops can pull you over and ticket it you.

When people are going just a little under the speed limit I'm cool with that, so long as it's on a multilane road where I can pass them. Hell, even if it's on a rural road with broken lines where I can pass them. But when I'm stuck behind some old fogey or some other mentally challenged going 15 in a 30 (usually a neighborhood) that's when I want to break out the RPGs and the tactical nukes.

some cagers give me room to pass on their side but some don't. so i pass on dbl yellow at the canyons but only on a long clear straight.

i once passed a truck and then road suddenly turned and i went over the dbl line during cornering... so i never pass anyone unless it's on a clear straight now.

i will again someday when i get better at passing during corners.
