Actually I thought it was the flag of the republic of West Florida, and was adopted by the confederacy.

I believe this flag pre-dates the Lone Star flag of Texas.

You are correct. I went back and double checked the facts. It was adopted first by West Florida. The other statements I made were accurate though - with the exception of the possible source for the flag.

It was used after the short lived West Florida by several different states to point out seperation from the union.

Thanks for the correction. I'm still learning.

Also on the very outside of the "what it could mean" realm, it could be a throw-back to old southern times and values that are missing today. Like white sheets for hoods and separate bathrooms depending on skin shade.

Not to mention hugely inaccurate stereotypes...

My attitude is that these symbols are a personal expression, nothing more. How many bikes do I see with flames or skulls on them? Or the inevitable H-D logo plastered everywhere? To each his own...

If there is anything to criticize, it would be aesthestics. If I was a devout, I would want something really stylish spraypainted on the tank and fenders. Lots of tasteful things you can do with a religious theme...

To be fair I listed more than one possiblity. I don't think you can claim none of those who display this flag or the confederate are harboring racist attitude. The majority? No. But enough to make you aware it is sometimes the case. That was all I was saying. That is one of many reasons to display these specific flags. If you don't want people to wonder, you don't display them. If you don't care what people think, I suppose that doesn't matter anyway.

I am glad this topic was posted. I too am tired of reading signatures and emblems and all sort of quotes that are religion based. You want to be religious, you are proud of your faith, keep it to your self. Religion has done nothing but cause strife, wars and conflict. I am not interested in reading about who your god is or who died for what, or how you plan on getting to heaven.

He's got the freedom of expression to put whatever he wants on his bike, it dosen't bother me one bit. We've got a group of Christian riders in my area that frequent bike nights and they wear thier cross patches and have the religious sayings and they're cool, they don't bother anyone, everyone respects thier freedom of expression and beliefs....just as it should be. Some sport crosses some sport skulls...

i think it looks like junk

on the religeous note, although im not religeous in any way, what annoys me the most is, if its ok to display christianity all over a bike and be accepted, then it would also be ok for a muslim person to have Koran/Ala type material all over their bikes and be accepted...right ?????

the hypocracy found in all types - forms of religeous beliefs is what I cant stand, its ok to be christian but if your not, and you believe something else we will automatically assume the worst of you.

think i might become a buddist, at least they are all about peacefull symbiotic relationships with all living things

Personally, I think you have the right to make your bike into whatever form pleases you the most. If a Muslim wanted to do the same thing but with quotes from the Koran, I could not care less. Same with a LDS and quotes from the Book of Mormon... or even a Scientologist.

It's just not something that I would choose to do with my bike.

There were more slaves in the North than in the South during the Civil War. Also, look up where the KKK headquarters is located... In the North!

Oh, and the Civil War was not a war about slavery, it was, as you said, about States Rights!
