Funny, I was thinking of this thread today when I went out on a group ride. I was introduced to a couple of women who were both riding pillion today. One of the women was friendly but the other was not. The other 3 women along were riding their own rides and although we were generations apart they were ok. The friendly woman who was riding pillion today also happens to ride, but the unfriendly woman does not. I would have to say that when I first arrived if looks could kill I would be dead now.
It took a while for her to warm up but when I ended up beside her at the table where we were having lunch I think she realized I was ok and not out to "steal" her man or to make her feel inferior because she didn't ride.
We talked quite a bit during lunch and although we will never be "friends" because we are so different, I think the next time we meet, she will say hello with a smile instead of with an "evil look".
There were 15 bikes out in our group today. After all the rain for over a month it felt so good to have a sunny day.
judging by the way you described yourself, they are most likely jealous of the look youve got going on. i know that if i saw an attractive woman riding on a bike, it'd be a definite turnon. i think most guys find girls on bikes attractive, so long as they are still feminine and not "butch".

I'm no ravishing beauty, but I hold my own. I've recently starting riding, and for the last 5 years have been into hang gliding - another male dominated sport. On the occasions that I've had negative responses from female "spectators", I've just had to giggle and kill 'em with kindness. There is nothing more frustrating than being jealous of someone doing something you wish you could, and then finding out they are too nice to talk badly about with your spectator friends!

I think I look better now at 43 than EVER! I'm 5'8", 130 pounds, and my hair is long (finally).
I ride my own ride. I feel confident in that statement, even though I am not an expert rider. I grew my hair out to be able to put it up for the helmet. I do exercise to keep me stronger for riding - I won't be sore after a weekend. I think I use my "core" to ride, and heck - I can't eat while I'm riding!! I was a skinny, horrible hair, coke bottle glasses wearing teen. I DESERVE this!! I was no cheer leader, I was not popular...
I get "the look" from the passenger girls. In their 20's wearing a bikini top and shorts. I smile to myself and say age sure has wisdom. I have friends who have wives that are passengers, and they comment on my less than perfect riding. I told them when they get out on the road on their own bike, then we'll talk, 'cause they have no clue. I do tend to hang with hubby and the guys at a BBQ. Yes - I would rather talk about bikes, rides, motors, paint than my period or giving birth (which I never have nor ever will). The majority of those wives don't EVEN work!! No little kids, just too tired to work, and sleep all day till hubby comes home - then they make them go get take out!! ARGH!!!
I don't know if it's me or my bike, but I get alot of cool comments from guys. Advice, too! I feel like I'm in "the brotherhood". Hubby worries becasue he just does, and it comes out as criticism - but after almost 13 years, I understand him. I think he like the fact I ride my own ride, and is glad not to have my weight on his rear. Means he can have his own fun. He goes with his friends, me with mine, and we discuss over bug cleaning. Both of his sisters, my hairdresser and formerly (when I got my nails done) the nail girl (too prissy, gave it up, but, gosh, I need my hair coloring!)

I had an experience like this a few weeks back during a small group ride. One of the wives was a little reserved not really mingling with the rest and low and behold we're leaving the parking lot, her husband pulls up next to me and she flashed me that dirty look.... I thought it was hysterical, some people are so insecure.

Candy750 you really have a great attitude! Wish we could bottle it and give it to the kids!! Just joking...but, seriously..I have had more women drivers, and more than a few men, break into a big smile or give the thumbs up when they realize that it's a woman under that helmet. Just smile sweetly and give it right back!! Be safe!!
I haven't really come across the 'look'. Although..
One of my biker friends broke down as we were leaving an event. It was late. The other guy with us went and got a trailer and took care of the bike. My friend asked me to give him a ride home, I said sure. He's married, but his wife is not into motorcycles at all! I've never even met her. Anyway, he asked me to drop him off at the end of his driveway, because his wife was very jealous and would not understand at all. I'm like.. understand what? It never dawned on me a wife would be jealous in this situation. Go figure.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, I was riding in a Christmas parade one year. All of a sudden I hear this yelling and screaming. I look around to see what was up. This group of 13 year old girls were jumping up and down screaming 'it's a girl'! They had heard the Harleys (I'm on a Honda) and they saw me on my Honda and went ballistic. Then it was a lot of 'whoop, whoop, you go girl.. etc etc'. It was AWESOME!

I just got my first bike yesterday.. but I rode with my family for as long as I can remember and I used to see the reactions my mom would get when she pulled up on her bike at events we went to. I'm 30, 5'5 and 121lbs, have 3 kids and hit the gym regularly and my mom going to be 49 this year and doesn't look a day over 35. ( i hope I take after her). My husband is quite happy with me and was a bit worried about me getting my own bike but that soon changed from worriedness to talk of showing me off next to him instead of behind him.
I also know about the "wives" you're talking about. I see them ALL THE TIME...ugh
Anywho..glad to be a part of this and next time someone gives ya a dirty look, blow em a kiss..
