When and how to wave?

The HD vs. sport bike is nothing more than a school rivarly (generalized statement) I've had excellent conversations with HD guys while still setting on uncle dave's Ducati 999R (The epetemi of sport bike).

Also, the HD riders I've met don't wave to sport bikes because they don't wave to them (Return wave or other wise), and vice-verse.

I try to wave at everybody. Get responses form most on all types of bikes. Perhaps it's the Brit sport tourer that nobody's ever seen before that throws them

Although, to be fair, most of my riding is freeway commuting and if'n you don't get a wave back from me, it just means I'm busy trying to decipher the motivations of the Frieghtliner just ahead of me in the slow lane.

I wave when I can regardless of the type of bike. But now the weather is getting nicer every man and his dog are out on bikes and there are too many to wave to them all. I'd either get whiplash from all the head nodding or RSI from the waving.
In winter it was much easier, I'd see maybe two or three bikes a day so they all got a wave. When I see two or three hundred bikes a day its just not possible to acknowledge them all. Besides which, in rush hur traffic, what's going on ahead of me is much more important than waving to a biker on the other side of the motorway!

yeah i try to wave at everything on 2 wheels, even bicycles though i've only ever had 1 bicyclist EVER wave back. And kids are the awesome to wave to, they get all excited and stuff, super fun!!

Even Scooters, i try to wave to them as well because:a) my roomates are looking to get Vespas{which btw are awesome} and :b) they are just small displacement motorcycles in a different frame.

the point is waving is fun.

LOL in Daytona I was tooling along on my Honda c70 (Scooter) when it stalled out by the side of the road (Turned out to be clogged air vent/vacuum in tank anyway - was tryin to figure out what was wrong and a grizzled old guy on a big HOG stopped and asked if I needed any help... It was so unexpected I almost fell over!!!

Had a smile on my face for the rest of the day though. That was a REAL biker!

You know who's never waved back yet?

Motor cops.

I've waved at three now.

Not even sure they saw me, though I don't see how they'd miss me if they were riding with proper attentiveness.

I wouldn't even bother with cops on bikes.

First thing you know you'll be pulled over for 'wreckless driving' because you were operating your bike with only one hand.

I waved to a CHP last Friday, he even waved back. I don't normally wave to the fuzz, but I didn't recoginize him as John Q. Law at first.

You all are thinking about it wayyyyyyyy too much.

There is no special wave. High or low or how many fingers doesn't matter. Elbow angle doesn't matter. Inclusion of head nod doesn't matter. Eye contact/smiling doesn't matter. What kind of bike the rider is riding doesn't matter.

I just wave at all riders, if they don't wave back, too bad.
