And you based this comment on what personal experience? I'd really like to know, because I have an '04 FLHT with over 42,000km on it now and it has yet to leak a single drop of oil or suffer even the slightest mechanical failure.

the thing is alot of japanese riders have perceptions on Harleys and vice verser.
Ive rode a harley, and personly they are not for me, if I could have a garage of bikes maybe, id buy a Cruiser type motorcycle, but Harleys are just too expensive, personly I believe its not what you ride, its the fact that you ride.
Harley arnt the American motorcycle they let you believe it is, assembled in the USA, yep

Unfortunately one is going to run into some folks with attitudes and biases about what is the best bike , etc.
As been stated , most of the peeps with these attitudes are either posers, yuppies , or RUBs . And who cares what they think .
I grew up with folks whose attitude was Brotherhood before Motherhood and no predudices involved because we all shared the common love of motorcycles . And to my way of thinking , that is the way it still is for me and should be for everyone .
I ain't riding for anyone but me so if folks don't like what I ride , too bad for them .
Now for the best , later for the garbage .

My bike cost me five hundred bucks and has broken badges, a dent in the tank, faded paint and losts of scratches but i love it and it goes well and gets me there. It don't matter what you ride. Get out on the open road and enjoy the ride.
By the way, i know this post is late but i can't understand people who need to judge who you are by the kind of bike you ride.

The point is to ride isn't it? Doesn't really matter what it is.
There will always be snobs.
For me the Harley mystic is all BS, I'd rather have a metric cruiser if I were ever going to have a cruiser at all. That's just not the type of riding I want to do at this stage of the game. Perhaps down the road.
Too each his own.

I've gone to the full year motorcycle commute. Yesterday it rained for the entire 50 mile trek in to work. As I got off the bike, a friend who rides an R1 said, "You're my hero!" 1400 employees and one bike in the parking lot. Word gets around and a lot of folks think I'm nuts. But there don't seem to be a lot of bike snobs around me.

I believe my total round trip commute is less than 50km or about 31 miles. Rain or shine that Virago is my ride like it or not. Thank God for decent raingear...
