Best all around sporbike??

Well I was looking at the Daytona on youtube, and almost every time I heard the bike it made this whistling sound.. at first I thought it was from the wind and camera but it does it when ever the person revs it up. It became annoying.. is there anything thats super great about the bike for its middle class?

it not the number of cyclinders, its how you use them.

that whine is the intake, I imagine it sounds very different when on the bike.

What is the bikes appeal?
Think of it this way: As a 675 triple it has three 225cc cylinders as opposed to an 600 cc inline four (its main completition) with four 150cc cylinders. The 225cc cylinders allow more air and fuel in and thus a bigger bang with each power stroke. Bigger bang = more torque (and lower frequency sounds out the pipe) however it also = more heat. The bigger reciprocating mass of the bigger cylinder heads and the additional heat means a lower redline. So at equal RPMs the Triumph is generating more power but it can't reach the RPM's of the Japanese fours. The Triumph triple is also narrower than the Japenese fours, allowing a narrower chasis.

So what does this mean? The Triumph is narrower than the Japanese 600cc fours, has a wider powerband, is pretty equal in terms of HP and chasis, costs the same, has a deeper growl, and isn't a Gixxer. All of these things create its appeal.

Anybody please correct me if I got any of that wrong.

Wow that was a very good break down of it, thanks ha. So its just like any other sport bike. I keep getting the impression that its like a step down from a 600 or not AS good as one or something who knows im still a noob anyways. but thanks for the information!

I saw a dude getting on his Daytona yesterday on my way home from work.

That is a sexy bike. It stands out from the crowd of sportbikes.

The simpler way to say it is:

more hp
more torque
lighter weight

then any of the japanese 600's when it was built.

Right now I think the cbr weighs a little less.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

That's an excellent breakdown of the bike. Dyno results of the 06 600cc class from SportRider.

You mentioned that the bigger cylinders develop more heat, which is very very true. AND the way they've designed the exhaust (pipes right up under the seat), means it can get pretty toasty, especially if you're in stop-and-go.

Heck no. It was bike of the year in 06 (according to sportbike mags). I think the new CBR beat it in 07 (which is fine with me; now all the squids who bought Daytonas just because of the reports, and murdered the poor bikes, will move on to Hondas...).

Yeah. Wet weight on the Honda is 412; on the Daytona is 417. However, the Daytona puts out 123 hp, whereas the Honda is at 118, so the Triumph is pushing 3.39lbs with its ponies, while the Honda is moving 3.49lbs. Because that's going to make a biiiiiiiig difference :roll:

Apparently the Honda's ergos are bit better than the D - bars are a little higher & seat is a bit farther back, so it is a little roomier. I passed up the chance to ride one over the weekend, so I can't comment personally on any of this. Next time, though...

There are lots of after-market pipes for the bike. I can think of 4 or 5 right off the top, and probably could find a couple more if I bothered to look around. Any of them would change the sound of the bike although, as atom pointed out, it sounds different when your riding. Personally, I like it.

Yeah the daytona looks like a good choice right now with all the information im getting, and I don't believe that many people have them around here.. if any which is a bonus :mrgreen:

When you were talking about the bike getting hot, your talking about just the engine heat coming off and on to your legs right?

Also whats a good year to look into for the daytona?

Yeah. I will say that the bike gets hotter than any other bike I've been on. But... it may just seem that way to me due to a combination of new bike + new environment (i.e. I'm comparing the heat of the D in AZ to my Gixxer and Ninja in NC and my Yami and CBR in WI. Apples and oranges, really.)

Other riders have noted that it gets toasty, but nothing out of the ordinary for them.

I'd take a trip to your nearest dealership and have a sit on it. You're a little taller than I am, so I suspect you'll find it quite comfortable. And yeah... they're pretty rare. (Which, as someone pointed out, isn't all good: distant dealerships, expensive parts and long waits to get things.)

But, in my opinion, the best bike I've ridden, even with its little quirks.

Yeah I will have to look were some dealerships are but this is a link to a guy has a new 07 daytona and it looks like the stock pipe is on there.. tell me if you can hear the whistling or what ever it may be when he revs it up.

No can do. Work computer doesn't like youtube. It'll have to wait until I get home (probably 9 or 10pm Indiana time).

If you go over to triumph675.net you can search through the forums there (look in the groupbuy and the modifications forums) and find links to videos with different pipes to give yourself something to compare. And, who knows, the guy in your video may have done something to his pipe (e.g. gutted the cat); I've never noticed a whistle on mine when I'm off the bike... it's just a very satisfying grumble. :dunno:
