It looks like the weather is not going to be great for riding yet so you have time. Hopefully you can get it up and running before the next ride time. Good luck...

Boo Boo, I got to ride a bit yesterday. Not very long but a short one anyway. It was a bit colder then it felt standing in the drive way. I started off with my fingerless gloves and quickly stopped to put on the full fisted gloves. I was going to call you but it did not take long to realize that if I was going to ride longer I would need the chaps and just did not feel up to going into that much gear for a ride.

I finally got the fan working correctly. It did require that I purchase the thermostat switch. And of course that required the purchase of 2 more tools. Got it all put back together to find out that the lower half of the fan unit was pinned against the left radiator unit. Took it all apart again and fixed that. It required that I add a washer under one of the bolts to space it out a bit. Also had to bend one of the brace bars back into shape. further evidence that the bike had been dropped on the left side also. I need to top of the coolant in the overflow and make sure I don't have any leaks. Put the fairings back on and she should be back to riding condition. I will probably take her in to have the forks done either beginning of next month or January.

Ride 113007 Justin Texas

Ride 113007 Justin Texas

Today started out a little on the weird side. First my dog decided to jump up on my bike as if she wanted to go for a ride. I know she really does not like the sound of the bike when it starts. Not that it is loud she just does not seem ok with it while it’s running.

Here she is… Ready to go. NOT!!!!

I wanted to go for a ride earlier in the day, but between this site and work I took care of a little business and then before I knew it noon happened. I had to get gas so while filling up an elderly man asked me for instructions to what I thought he said a Honda dealership. Since I was riding I assumed a motorcycle dealership and after talking with him awhile I quickly realized that he had no idea of where to go. I offered to drive up that way and he could follow which he readily agreed with. So I ride all the way up to Grapevine with him following pull into the dealership parking lot and he does not stop but keep following me through the parking lot on to a side street. I thought he wanted to say thanks so I stopped and backed up. Sure enough he wants to go to a Toyota dealership. I about fall off my bike. Not knowing where one is I look at his map again and tell him how to get where the map is and the fact that he can follow me once again down the highway to about the half way mark. My friends were supposed to meet me at my house at 1 PM and it is now about 1240 PM. So I take off once again with him following and when I take my exit so does he. So once again I stop at the same gas station to see what is up now. He explains that he is not from around here and wanted further instructions. So I told him to stay on the HWY and exit at 121 south. We take off, I turn left to go home he goes on the hwy. I hope it all worked out well for him.

So I called the ole boars and 3 came out for a ride. Here we are ready to go. As usual the plan changed as we rode and they were late, it is now nearly 130PM.
This is the four of us, right to left, TC, Phillip, me, and Paul in my driveway.
Image

We were going to ride the 1171 but first decided to get some late lunch over at Chilies in Roanoke.

Right to left is Phillip, Paul, TC.
Image

We take off up 377 until a small road and Philip has us turn left on it. It was a fun road to ride, a little twisty and nice scenery.

We stop in Justin Texas. Here is a picture Phillip took of us at the Justin Boots store.

From there we decide to head home. Phillip is leading and sure enough in good ole Phillip fashion we miss our 114 turn off and he takes us the back way home. We get caught in traffic and end up zigging and zagging all the way home. It was a nice ride so

it was more funny then anything else. On 1709 we stopped at a light and two women with 3 or 4 kids in the back seat kept looking at us so I waved at them and they loved it. They kept waving at us and you could tell they just loved it. We decided to end our day at Dukes as normal. They have some lights up now as you can see. These guys love their cell phones.

When I saw the picture of the 4 of you.....and especially with the cell phones.....Wild Hogs....

If you have not seen it, it is worth seeing. Quite funny.

Well to be honest until we find a better name we now call ourselves the Ole Boars because of the movie Wild Hogs. We (well at least I) are a bit older then the guys in Wild Hogs and we did not want to copy the name directly. TC has not yet seen the movie but for the most part the rest of us have. We keep growing in numbers with the four (TC growing in presence) in the last thread being the core and now that Boo Boo has his bike mostly he will become a core (most often available for riding) member. If Boo Boo ever get's his lazy rear out of bed today, he might send me pictures from the Parade we ran in last night so I can write up the event here, and he might be able to go riding today. See (talk) with you later.

Ride 120207 - Lake Grapevine (again)

Ride 120207 – Lake Grapevine

Today it started off with a bit of drizzle in the morning, roads were wet so I took the opportunity to clean the bike a bit. Then by 1100AM it was clear, sunny, and windy – Time to ride.

The Ole Boars were not readily available until about 1245 then Dennis and I met up at the American Legion and had a fast burger. It really was too windy to take the highways and enjoy the road so we took off back roads headed north. We ended up finding some nice roads mixed in with some higher traffic volume roads but we did end up at a park leading towards Dove’s Landing. Here is Dennis and I at a little pull off within the Park road.

Dennis had to get back home early so the plan was for us to meet Boo Boo at Joe’s Crab shack and then Dennis would head on home and Boo Boo and I would continue the ride. Well Dennis got caught be a light just before Joe’s and then when I turned in he took off straight which was part of the basic plan anyway. Boo Boo and I had a beer and we took off for north of the lake. We found this little road that eventually got us to a place called Mural Park. Once there he kind of remember mountain biking in the area. It was quite a peaceful quiet place. Here are a few shots.

After walking around a bit he said he never been to Twin Coves Marina via the road so we headed up that way. The temperature started to drop but it was still 75 degrees so we decide to head up anyway. I was concerned that I only had my vest but thought what the heck it cannot get too much colder in a couple of hours during the daylight. Well I was big time wrong. We got to the marina and decided to have a cold beer before heading back home and we ran across a very good long time friend of mine Jimmy. Pictured below. He wanted to see my bike so we finish the beer and headed back to the bikes. It got very chilly in the breeze. Jimmy offered up a coat from his boat and I gladly excepted and am I glad. It would have been a miserable ride home with out it. Thank you Jimmy if you ever read this. I just need to get it back to him very soon. Should be a nice week to throw in a ride so I will try to get it to him this next week. Today being Sunday.

Below is Boo Boo when we first got to Twin Coves Marina.

The ride home was quick and without incident. Man am I glad I had Jimmy’s coat!
