I talked to my friend, also in high school, who has his ME and some kind of crotch rocket today. He told me that I can take the MSF course and get my ME as soon as I have a full provisional license, so I don't have to wait until my 18th birthday, later this year, like I had assumed. Good news for me, huh? I just have to find a good time to take the BRC course in the spring, rather than the summer or fall.
Pretty awesome

Well dang...too bad you're not on the West Coast. I have an '06 Rebel in primo condition that needs a good home...
I use to live in San Diego, from 86 to 90.

My advice for a new biker looking for "a bike to learn on", is to buy a used 550 ot 650. As you say, you'll probably get something else in a while.
Find a support group. Bunch of freinds or even one freind, willing to spend some time with you and keep you safe on the road while learning.
Finding a good mototcycle safety school is a good idea.
Remember safety is #1. Safety in the size of the bike you ride, safety in how you learn to ride and safety in how you ride. There's not much between you and the road and it doesn't take much for you to meet it.
Good luck and be smart.

So some good news, at last! I'm signed up for a BRC course at Wake Tech towards the end of March. I can't wait

So I didn't get into the class until April, but thats still not too far!
And I definitely will let you know once I'm ready for some co-op riding, the social aspects of riding is one of the things that appeals to me most.

Hey Kunfyoozed. I've been reading your progress, and I am in the almost exact same situation you are. Looking for a used bike under $2k. I am also in the raleigh/cary area, and I just sent in my registration for MSF BRC course for the first week in april. I'd also be glad to start riding with you once I finish the course and get my bike. Good luck and keep us updated.
