I am the very proud owner of a Classic Kawasaki KZ1100 With the FULL Vetter Touring setup. By THAT, I mean the FRAME
mounted front fairing that has the needed hardware to add the complete stereo setup if I could ever FIND ONE! The hard saddlebags are the ones that, with a twist of the ignition key in the rear lock, they come off, handles included, as suitcases!
AND, the large rear top trunk that has the passenger's backrest built in. It is large enough to swallow a FULL FACED helmet!
On to the juicy Info!!!! 1082CC (65.2 CID) DOHC air cooled inline 4. 8.9:1 Compression Ratio with 4 synchronized Mikuni
34MM CV Carburetors, a 4 into 2 full flow exhaust system with a full 18 inches of headers. (just for official info, the 1982
KZ1100 w/shaft drive set-up was factory rated at 108 BHP @ 8500 RPM 71 FT/LBS Torque @ 7000 RPM, which creates a performance level of 11.6 1/4 mile standing start @ 117.6 MPH! It's officially observed top speed was recorded by Cycle World Mag. in 1982. Even better news, I am enrolled, set to start classes in March, for Motorcycle Mechanics Institute, in Phoenix
AZ. My specialty, as we are allowed to choose 2 marquees or brands to center our studies on. I have chosen Kawasaki, as for one, I have a true LOVE for the complete KZ line of Kawasaki motorcycles, as well as an infatuation with the Yamaha 400-750
parallel twins! (of course I do realize that very little of what I will be working on is the older bikes, but, if I can master working on the new big bore V-Twins of the Star/Kawasaki/Yamaha bikes, I can REALLY MASTER the classics! Which is my ULTIMATE goal, to open up a Classic Japanese Motorcycle Restoration Shop! I am going to be overhauling the 4 carbs BEFORE I head to Phoenix so I can ride it to and from school! I am a little nervous about this, as I have never even tried to dismantle one, yet alone 4 carbs! And the worst thing, is that NO-ONE in my circle of friends could begin to understand, which is going to be a HUGE plus when I get to the Campus! (the ONLY bad part will be my 47 year old age will have is my ease in getting beer, which SOME students will have to find themselves!) So, in ending this, I ask my brother and sister riders to wish me the best of luck, and a short prayer to make the important stuff come together! THANK YOU ALL!!!
