My niece is about to get a new bike as well. she is 5'10 and about 180 pounds and very athletic. she thinks she can handle a bike bigger than a 250 but she is just 18 and has never driven one. She said she really doesn't like the body styles of the 250. Do you guys think a 500 would be to big for her, are there any other bikes you would suggest for her?

yeah, Im actually the niece. I went today and looked at a 05 ninja 500. I think Im gonna get that one. It wasn't very heavy at all. I liked it pretty well and I've been told its a pretty good bike to start on, not too small nor too big. Does anyone happen to think its too big? Is a 250 really that much different? Just looking for some help.

why do you need an 05? get one thats a few years older. that way when you drop it, it wont be as hard on the ego. don't buy a new bike for your first one.

dont get the '05. get an older one for dirt cheap and save the money. theres no reason to get brand new when your likely going to trade it in anyways. if you buy a used one you can trade sell it later for pretty much what you paid for it. unless you have a specific reason to buy a brand new bike?

id go with the 500.

They are both good bikes. From what I've heard, the 500 isn't signifigantly faster than the 250. The 500 has ergonmics that are better for shorter people, but either should be fine for you.

Maybe not alot on top speed, but in accelleration and passing power there is a big difference.

yeah get an older bike.. I bought a 96 fzr for my 1st bike (dropped a couple times at a stand still only).. and was pretty pissed about it.

I hope I don't drop my 02 f4i. It already has a scratch on the sticker on the one fairing from the owner before me..

I was thinkin about spending the 500 bucks to buy a brand new OEM plastic to make it mint again.

Last few days I been walkin in a kawa dealership (cuz my ski is in for repair). and keep looking at those new zx6's in blue.. wow pretty. Good bike or no? I want to test drive but don't know any one who has one.
