I got a bike (Volusia) and a scooter (2003 Vino- "modified" so it will go 45 mph.)

I get some odd looks with all the tattoos, airfoyle goggles, leather jacket ect. I get wave from just about everyone on the scooter, not so much on the big bike....

I ride both to work/store/fun or whatever.

The day before I got a very surprise. I rode down local street to work. I saw a scooter parking in traffic right on the left. I prepared to wave to he/she, then guess what. She is on a scooter with kind busket in the front for some grocery and she is around 70. I gave her a very big wave and big smile, she return with even bigger smile as well. :)

This is so cool. a bike for everyone.

My daughter rides a scooter, guys wave at her all the time (the bastards) In SA the BM guys wave all the time, HOG guys totally ignore everyone unless they have a "pee" pot on, SB guys, nod and in the rural areas if you do not wave at the local children and throw them sweets, they throw stones at you.

I wave at everyone. Which is nice.

Well everyone except BMW riders because they are so ...you know..uppity.

Oh and Honda riders, I wont wave at them either. Because they are just like BMW riders only without as much money, so they get no waves.

Oh I almost forgot the Harley riders. No point waving at them because they are wicked people and sacrifice animals and what have you. If I waved at the Harley riders people might not get the difference.

I dont wave a Buells because they are practically Harley riders.

Red bikes. I cant see myself waving at red bikes because red is a color of bike a guy would buy if he wasnt going to ride safely and sanely. Red bikes give us all a bad name and an excuse for legislators to outlaw bikes i hate red bikes. I wont wave at them and you cant make me.

Anybody wearing an orange vest while riding wont be seeing ME wave at them. Because they are safety nazis. They just go around yammering about how unsafe this or that thing isnt safe to do on bikes, or how this or that gives us all a bad name. Why cant they just mind their own business instead of mine and yours? I cant tolerate those intolerant orange vest wearers. They get no waves from me.

I can see nothing good coming from waving at zen buddhist monks on bikes really. I wont do it I tell you. Zen Buddhist monk shouldnt be on a bike in the first place. How zen-like is it really to jam around on a bike? A zen Buddhist monk is only a temporary thing. He will either quit biking or quit the monastary soon. He cant have both. Ditch that yellow robe first Cletus...THEN maybe Illl wave to you,

Copsickles. Why would I wave at a guy who is probably going to pull me over and ask for my autograph in about a minute anyway? Wave at them? More likely to shake my fist at them.

So I mostly wave at my own smiling reflection in those big plate glass windows. Which is nice.

Actually a lot of the bikers wearing orange vests aren't safety nazis but are military. The orange vests are mandatory if you want to ride your bike on a military base.

Here in cheyenne a kid on a sportbike wearing an orange vest is a pretty common site since we have an air force base here.

I've been riding all over for at least an hour or 2 a day here in southern california, where as you know, there are tons of bikers. I noticed that not one single person on a crotch rocket has waved at me, and I've passed alot of them in 2 weeks. On the other hand, just about every person on a cruiser has waved or waved back at me.

Now that we're on the subject of waving, what exactly is the proper wave, or is there one? When I'm stopped at a light, I'm always holding the clutch with my left while I sit in 1st gear (probably a newbie habit) and when someone waves, I just give my silly 'hello' wave up high with my right hand. (to avoid stalling). I know this is a extremely dumb question, but is that wrong? lol... Every time a biker waves at me it seems like its a peace sign pointing down with the left hand...

Two fingers down is probably the most common wave. If your hand is busy, shifting, holding the clutch in at a stop, or just holding the bars in a long sweeper, a nod of the head is an easy substitute for a wave. More than likely, it's safer in most cases when cornering.

A big clue as to why a lot of Harley riders don't wave can be found out by taking a test ride.

Take a test ride on a Harley.
