Solo or Two-up?

I'm very happy that my wife enjoys riding 2up with me. It's great that she does ride, so that we don't have to leave the bike at home everytime we're going out together. Particularly being as it's a sportbike, there's a huge difference in the handling with her riding with, but at least it's big enough an engine to not slow it down much. Even so, I do still enjoy the chance to cut it loose a bit more when she isn't riding with.
There are times that I wish she were interested in riding her own bike, but then again, I suspect I'd be a nervous wreck about her riding. Not that I don't trust her driving, but I know how the drivers are in this area, and I tend to worry about her enough anyway, even when she's out in the car.

The one thing that she and I both really look forward to getting, for riding 2up, is a good intercom system. It frustrates both of us to have to sit silently and wait for the next stop to be able to talk about somthing that we've seen or thought of... and when we're out on the interstate, that could be a good long while before that happens.

For years I packed Honeys . And for a long time in my marriage to Tweety I packed her . Now I am most fortunate cause she has her own scoot (her 3rd) and it's a lot more phun . I've always got someone to go puttin' with when she is not working and get to go by my self when she is .

I like riding solo... beside my husband, on HIS bike.

I started riding first, then HE wanted to 'come along.' We've been married so long - 20 years this October - that we can anticipate each other quite well, so no surprises on the road.

And there's nothing more fun than 'asphalt dancing' on winding roads together.

Solo - I haven't been riding very long and don't have any 2-up experiences besides on my 400 bandit but if the pillion weighs over 70kg's (ie. most men I know) the bike feels and eats fuel like a slug although the bike has 60hp.

Im sure it could be better with a 600cc+ bike, I really enjoy sharing the experience and having the company on a long ride too.

Riding in a pair is my favourite, its nice having another bike with you but not the crowd of a true group ride.

The bulk of my riding is done two up, for me there is nothing better than sharing a long ride with my wife. She is an excellent pillion and has made every effort to learn all the tricks for pillion riders and even rides pillion on the track with me. We tried the helmet communicaters and even she does not like them. Sometimes it is just nice to ride and smell the flowers.

My riding is about 50/50. The wife enjoys riding pillion but has absolutely no desire to pilot her own bike.

No contest, two up just doesn't do it for me. I will take passengers
occasionally if they plead or offer bribes - but not regularly. I'm thinking
of buying a cowl for the pillion seat, just to drive the point home.

On the other hand, I wish my wife had shown more faith in my ability to
carry her safely on the back. On second thoughts, I wish I had more faith
in my wife's ability to sit still and not counter-lean on corners.

I have a limited " club", my son, who rides, my daughter, who rides, my son's girlfriend who has been battered by the above about how to be a pillion and my wife. Every one else is black balled.

Of all the responses, I go with sapaul. The answers to the poll seemed rather sexist, IMHO. Women are getting more involved with biking, and I know there are men out there who really do want to have their women friends riding with them. I would never want to have my boyfriend be a passenger, simply due to the laws of physics - I think the bigger and heavier person should be the driver, driving skills being equal.

I think it's a great thing to share with someone in your life, so add to the poll, "Yes, please!"

Attitudes are changing, If we need to nip to the shops and use my 17 year old daughters scooter, she drives and I have to get on the back. I weigh 85kg and she weighs 59kg. When this happens I use Keith Codes instructions for pillion riders. SIT STILL AND DO NOTHING. Bottom line is I have seen my daughter ride bigger bikes than what she can ride legally and, Damn I can't explain why, but I trust her.
