Oh, I see - now it all makes sense. Harley has it too easy and they're so smug about it, so you needed to find something you thought funny about one of the model lines and then post it so that everyone else could share in the laughter and thereby make yourself feel better. Right, then, carry on... I look forward to finding out what you find funny with BMW, Ducati, Aprillia, Kawasaki, Honda, Suzuki and all the rest. Should be worth a few chuckles.

At least you ask, while others would rather keep their heads in the sand. No worries about the anti-Harley stuff, it happened long before I arrived and will continue to happen long after I leave TMW. But since I appear to be the only one who stands up for the marque when I feel it to be unjustly slagged, I get pinned as the big, bad Harley rider with a thin skin. C'est la vie. I'm still waiting for the day that everyone figures out what the hell a Ural is... now there's fodder for some good bike bashing threads!

You seem to have so much fun dragging personal insults into the discussion, so I thought I'd give it a try. But you're right, it'll take me a while to become an expert at it like you. My first post didn't mention anyone's name, nor did it mention my bike in any way. Nevertheless you insist on taking everything personal, then turning the post into fifth-grade level name calling. I don't apologize for not blindly following all that is Harley, nor do I apologize for publically pointing out the extremely minor differences between three supposedly different motorcycles. True, it doesn't exactly qualify for the News thread, but that's why I threw it in the Soap Box. It clearly struck a nerve with you based on your prompt move toward insult, but I'm pretty sure everyone else got it and was capable of moving on.

Unless you have something else witty to say, I'm pretty sure this thread is ready for the scrap heap.

Reminds me of a joke about the Russian built Lada - it came with an electric rear window defroster as standard equipment, because it helped keep your hands warm as you were pushing it.

The Ural came first, but there's two versions as to how. One has it that the Russians bought five BMW R71's from a source in neutral Switzerland, smuggled them back home and then reverse-engineered them. The other is that Hitler gave Stalin the drawings and the tooling before their non-agggression pact fizzled out. The first version is what IMZ-Ural accepts as fact, but there's evidence that the Hitler/Stalin theory is valid, too.

Anyway, not to bore you with details but the first few hundred Russian built copies were made in a factory that was relocated to Siberia when they figured German long range bombers posed a threat. The factory has been there ever since. In the mid-50's a sister factory was built in the Ukraine near the Dnepr River where they produced only military versions of the rig that became known as the Dnepr. Ural went more into the civilian market and has fared a lot better than Dnepr as a result.

I personally like the V-Rod and its cousins the street and night rods. Sometimes I think im the only person that likes em.

I find it ironic that Harley goes and does something truly different for a change and they cant give em away. If I could afford it I would love a street rod, about the closest thing to a cruiser you would catch me on (a warrior, M109 or mean streak would be nice too).

I definately dont understand the harley thing. Could never get used to a bike that shakes like hell and sounds like the transmission is going to shed parts every time you shift (even if the bike is still reliable). Ill take the smooth idle and smooth shifting transmission of my honda (which has a v-twin that runs smoother than some multis I have seen)
