For a clutch on the GS? It must be quite expensive labor wise to have a clutch done by a shop on an Oilhead.
Rand dollar exch is around 8.60 to 1 today

Clutch and 80 000 service, was quoted 13 000 Rand =1511 dollars :frusty:

Wow... For that I'd not only do your full service and replace your clutch, I'd lick the bugs off of the front of the bike as well!

I'm blown away. I had my motor completely dismantled, powdercoated and rebuilt with all new seals for $1200 USD... they replaced the clutch while they were in there....

Wow, that is a crazy amount! But different countries do have different pricing... did you shop around at all? Can you find a "backyard mechanic" to do it?

Actually that sounds about right for clutch replacement in an Oilhead. I would've guessed a dealer would charge about $500 in parts and about 10 hours of labor.

I've seen a R1200C pulled apart for work on the clutch or trans. The whole bike was bisected- literally. Everything from the engine back was pulled off.

Yep, many riders of other brands are not aware that the Oilhead has a completely separate automotive type tranny with bellhousing, and the entire tranny and everything behind it (driveshaft, etc) has to come off to gain access to the clutch.
