I use the AVG free edition and like it. It catches stuff Norton's never did and freed up a fair bit computer for faster boobage and such important things.
I also run Spy-bot periodically as an extra measure.
I hated Norton's when I had it, and once I got AVG, I really hated Norton's knowing just how badly it sucked.

Everyone says that Norton is a resource hog. I could use some space back in the RAM. What other anti virus is good but takes up less space than Norton?
The new Norton Internet Security 2009 is said to be less resource intensive but their pricing was out of line. Right now I'm running BitDefender Internet Security and it's hardly noticeable. I even had it running on my sister's machine which at the time had 512MB of RAM on it. The best thing about it is that I got the version with 3 licenses and a 2 year subscription all for $60.
Norton also has a "Gamer Edition" of Norton which is rated the best and least resource requirements.

Well...I don't plan on downloading any boobage.... or bummage for that matter.....
but it would be nice to be able to use my photoshop more efficiently.

thats because they turn everything off (basically) in the gamer edition.

+1 for AVG. I haven't used it personally for a few years since I run Linux, but the wife still runs windows and it works GREAT!! When I do setups for people who buy new computers, one of the first things I do is uninstall the pre-load anti-virus and reload AVG.

AVG is good, but its detection rates have not been very competitive lately.
I've personally switched from AVG to BitDefender.

So I have a question for y'all... my friend just IM'ed me and said that her AVG did it's auto-update. When it did and the computer re-started it did a blue-screen-of-death before it even got to the password screen. I got her to get it booted in safe mode, what should be deleted to get it back up and running? All of AVG?
EDIT: Got it fixed enough she can run the computer with no problems now... Turns out she had McAfee and AVG running at the same time... As do her dad and bro...

I uninstalled Norton. However...there are still a few files that won't allow me to delete. The Symantec updater icon on the control page won't delete either.
I have now downloaded ACG trial version of their newest....It's a 30 day trial to see if I like it.
