I've never done a test on it, but I know that after 100 miles, my tank looks pretty darn empty. My bike's tank is 2 gallons, plus 1 gallon for reserve, so at ~50 miles a gallon (what the previous owner said), I don't get much more than 150 miles/250 km out of a complete tank. If they had made this bike with a 4.5/5 gallon tank, it would have been much, much better.

Thats the only let down with our bike, is that the tank only holds 13ltrs including reserve :? We usually top up every 100 miles.

I bought a used 2003 Honda Shadow 750. It has a 3.7 gal capacity with a 1 gal of that acting as reserve. When I drive city, I get 120 miles before having to switch to the reserve. But today I was driving highway and had to switch to reserve with just 76 miles on the tank! The time before that I had to switch to reserve at 90 miles but then drove for six miles to the fuel station and it only took 2 gallons.

I assume it should be getting at least 45 miles per gallon, especially on the highway. I'm getting at least 30 miles more in the city before switching to reserve. What can I do to more accurately track how much fuel I have remaining? I currently top the tank off and then reset the trip odometer so I see how far I've gone.

Average fuel economy is 5.6 litres per 100km, or 50.2 Imp mpg. I average around 320km before having to switch over to reserve. Haven't pushed the reserve distance yet, but I figure it should be good for about 60km.

*EDIT* - That figure was for my '04 Electra-Glide, my '06 Super Glide is averaging around 57mpg while my Ural is guzzling fuel at an average of 28mpg. The Harley is good for around 250km before getting low on fuel, while the Ural can roam about 180km before switching to reserve.

I've been getting 68mpg on my Alphasport GV250, with a 3.7gal tank (and then 1/2 gal reserve), putting me around 250 miles before I fill up. That is plenty for me!

I checked this morning when I topped off my tanks and it seems that I am getting 40.36 MPG in the city . Will be keeping records now to see if this is right and/or consistent . Seeing as how I don't get past 3rd gear in the city too often.

I fill up after 130 miles out of paranoia, it would be nice to know i could go much further without filling up.

Not too hard to figure out; divide the miles travelled since last fill by the number of gallons used to get your mpg. Then look at the owners manual to see how many gallons the main setting has in your bike's tank and how many in reserve and do the math.

Let's say you have a 3 gallon tank of which 2.5 gallons is main and .5 gallon is reserve. You fill the tank and travel 100 miles, then fill up again and it takes 2 gallons. That's 50mpg. You had one full gallon left in the tank, so you could have travelled another 50 miles before running dry. Theoretically, of course, as all kinds of factors come into play like speed, wind force, hills, etc, etc.
