Mine was about 23 years ago on a 1980 Yamaha XS650, and it was totally my fault. I was riding south on I-57 at about 5:00am, no traffic in sight. I got to thinking.... I've never been over 65mph on a bike... hmmm wonder what its like..... (big mistake on that bike) So, I sped up and kept speeding up... 105mph. Hey this isn't so bad. Then I noticed that I was starting to gain on some distant traffic. Time to slow down, no big deal I've got time. Let off the throttle and BAM, tank slapper at over 100mph!!!

I pulled in the clutch and let it coast as I gently suggested that the bike might want to head toward the shoulder. I was way too scared to even think about hitting the brake, it was all I could do to stay on the bike. It didn't come out of it until I got down to about 40mph. At that point I stopped and let myself calm down for about 15 minutes. I never went over 65 on that bike again. When I got home I immediately removed the handlbar mounted windshield and replaced the front tire. About a year later a friend of mine, who knew about what happened, bought the bike.

Scariest situation I've ever been in on a bike was, Early June, 1993 I believe it was, heading from Pisa IT to Mugello for the 500 GP bike races. Lots of bikes everywhere on the autostrada (Italian version of freeways) with tons of fans heading to the races.
Out of nowhere, this cager in front of me suddenly realizes traffic is almost stopped, and stomps his brakes. I immediately start slamming down gears and braking hard, standing my bike on its nose to a stop. I just land the stoppie, when I think OMG, that was close with my heart racing, when I am suddenly lying on the winshield of an Alfa Romeo staring at the clouds above.
I remember thinking to myself as I looked at the clouds, did I just die..

Monday morning traffic (the worst) speed limit changes from 65 to 55 on a two lane highway with off and on ramps to my far right. Of course everyone is doing 70mph. I am in the left lane swarmed by 7:45 am traffic hauling cookies when my engine just
dies....I switch my signal on and try to get off the road, with cars all over my backside, when a woman flies onto the exit ramp in front of the bike. She never even looked! I saw her coming and grabbed the brakes and avoided getting my front end knocked off but saw my rear end coming around my left side. I let go of the brakes and managed to right myself (countersteered) and get off the highway. I fully expected to hit the pavement but thankfully didn't. A nice gentleman stopped to see if I was ok and said I looked like I was riding a dirt bike out there with that slide. Checked the bike all over...STUPID mistake...OUT OF GAS. Hit reserve and fussed all the way to the gas station. I thought that was the worst thing that could happen on that day, but Nooooo. On the ride home I had three ##@@!!! kids from out of state come across the median to try to scare me in 5:00 traffic. They were laughing as they sped away. All I could think was they just haven't run into the right biker yet....I hope they do!!

my scariest moment was late at night a year and a half ago on my ?YZF600.. i pulled up to a green light and made a left hand turn and wasn't paing attention at all because there wasn't any traffic at all. Just as i crossed the oncoming street i hear a 'swoosh!!' as a car speeds through the intersection and almost kills me. i knew it was close because i felt the wind off of his car..lol

Other than getting taken out by a truck and breaking my arm. The scares time i had was in Orlando Attending MMI. On the way to class doing 70 and its raining hard. Pass some guy (?) and he doesnt like it so comes up and tries to ram me on the freeway in his camaro. Then tries to pin me next to a truck to make the point. Gets maybe 2 inches from me, him and the truck. quickly drop back and disapear from him. Was pissed. If i didnt have to got to class, i would have followed him and beat the s out of who ever it was. That was pure nastyness.

My closest call, was doing 40mph on a dual carriage-way (2-lanes in either direction, barrier separating them, 70mph limit) during a rain storm
Quite literally 2 inchs of rain fell in minutes, all the traffic slowed to 40, and I followed suit, leaving a large amount of braking distance.
The next thing i know a black golf moves into my lane, leaving me prehaps 3 maybe 4 metres braking distance, and jams his anti-lock brakes on.
I was fairly new to bikes at the time, and in all that water I had no hope of applying enough braking power to stop. Cue both brakes locking up. Some how (and I will never know exactly) I managed to slightly steer the slide into the breakdown lane, and carried on sliding upright untill I was level with the front of the car.
I don't think I'll ever forget the expression on their face when they realised their stupidity, and I hope they learnt from it, I sure did.

I have had quite a few but the one that scares me even today and will make me check my mirrors for no aparrent reason. I was paying a toll at the nj turnpike exit 10 booth for 287 and as I went to give the guy the money it felt like I popped the clutch. The toll guy is looking at me funny I am looking at him and my left hand my right is pulling out money. I can not comprehend what is happening then I realize its not me I look back and some cager is fiddling with his radio (precellphones) and just pushing me along, I start screaming at him, the toll guy is yelling at him and nothing for about 5-8 ft ( thank God the turnstiles are slick as all can be) then he stops and my fender on my bike as all bent up and he says IT WASN"T MY fault I didn't do anything lucky for me on the side of the turnstiles a nj statey is right there and the guy has no out and had to pay for my repairs. But when this happened it really was not scary until afterward when I thought how random it can happen and how LUCKY I was and how unlucky some others are.
Be careful out there bros

not to long ago i was riding a fourwheeler when i went over a steep hill right towards a barbed-wire fence. i had a short sleeve shirt, shorts, and no helmet(I know, STUPID). the grass was a little wet so when i hit the brakes all it did was slide, so i tried to slide it side ways and believe it or not the bike actually went up on two wheels as it came to a stop. i was so close to the fence my shirt actually got caught on the barbed wire. that made my butt hole pucker

I was riding home at night from my buddies house on the big party night (sober, I don't drink), and as a started to come over this hill, an SUV with seemingly drunk driver is in my lane heading straight at me at probably near 50-60 mph (in a 35). I tried to nudge over as far as possible, but this rode had curbs on both sides. He finally dodged me and we missed by a few feet. It scared me so much I almost couldn't ride home.

My scariest moment was a few weeks ago. I was coming home after a weekend trip and it had been raining on and off. I was coming off a long stretch of highway when I got suprised by a traffic light. It turned yellow, I tried to stop but my rear tire started to slip and eventually came around my right side. I kept thinking "This can't be happening!" I layed off the brakes, the tire got traction again and I high tailed it across the intersection.
It gets better... after I crossed the intersection I start to slow down to pull over and there was a car behind me that didn't see me slowing down

, so he slams his brakes and his tires start screeching. I made a hard left and crossed over into the grassy median and let him pass freaken #(%*&$)%

Saved twice by the grace of God.
The best part of this was that my husband was behind me when it happened! He got stuck at the red light, when I saw him making his way over I just gave him the thumbs up and got back on the road. I didn't even let him pull over and get off. Later that night he told me he thought for sure that I was going down...he complimented me on staying in control and not freaking out.
