Ladies - Evil looks from nonriding women, why?

I guess I have something useful to add to this thread. Reading about the ladies and their reaction from nonriders brings to mind that movie Mona Lisa Smile...the one where these girls are all in college, work hard and are very smart, but then they get married and just become a house-wife. One of the girls got accepted into law school and her friend flipped out because that plan didnt involve sitting around baking cookies all day and ironing hubby's socks.

Maybe these nonriders dont think they can get into riding, or shouldnt, and by riding you are not 'one of them'.

If I may comment; One thing that has not been mentioned so far is the possibility that wives or girlfriends riding with their significant other may not like motorcycles or riding. They just go along to be involved in what their partner is doing. Hence they see a woman rider as someone who shares something with their partner that they do not share and feel left out of that part of their partners life.

I am currently without a bike but have had three in the many years that I've been married. My wife has never ridden on any of my bikes and I suspect she never will. I would love it if she showed an interest in having a bike of her own, but I doubt that will ever happen. For me, when I see a woman rider I say to myself "Allright, go for it".

This is very true, in fact the incident I had involves that exact scenario. She almost made him sell his bike.

Most women are "catty" and judgmental. I don't really care what people think of me or what they say. They don't help pay my bills, put food in my mouth or keep a roof over my head therefore insignificant about what they think of me. My family and friends are the loves of my life - they are what's important.

Continue to take care of yourself, keep riding (and ride safely) and keep lookin' good!!

I'm still friendly to the ones that have that "look". I see them often when I am travelling on the ferry.
When all the bikes are waiting to load and then after we're all parked, there is always the usual chit chat.
Usually the non-riding women are responsive and chat and get involved with the questions and chatter that inevitably goes on.
However, if someone is obviously not interested, then I have better things to do....like go up to the passenger deck in search of ice cream....

I think in some cases it is envy. Most of the woman I know always tell me they are jealous because they for many reasons ($$, fear, etc) can not ride their own. I have noticed at times other women do give me dirty looks but i dont pay attention to them. Its their problem not mine.

Not being a rider myself (yet.....) -- all that *I* know is that I took a ton of heat from my fellow wives when my husband proudly showed up at a community event with his new bike. The husbands were predictably fascinated and crowded around while I got my share of "how could you!?" looks and comments.

My favorites were usually prefaced by some comment that I should "know better" given that I'm a physician. Sheesh.

Brutal.

Actually, thinking back on all that nonsense, maybe it would be fun to show up on my own bike...
