I live in Calgary Alberta Canada
People get shot here, mainly at weekends after a nightclub or some such "poo poo".
I want to tell you that I have an answer, but being scared to go around doing your own thing must be a terrible way to live
Before I moved to Calgary, I lived in London, England; I was a member of a fire arms club, and practiced tactical pistol and shotgun.
The trouble I feel with people now days is there numbed by violence in the media and the result of afflicting violence on some one else is marginal,
Who knows if I lived in a place that I had to carry a gun to make me feel safe Id move to the woods/mountains/middle of no where
I would own guns again, btw, I’m not anti gun, I just feel where do people draw the line, if some one is in your car stealing a CD, and do you kill them.
If people are in your garbage, do you shoot them?
It’s something where the judgment the decision needs to be taken out of the private individual and remain with law Enforcement.

40 years on this earth and I've never once needed to carry a handgun... I live in Texas.
Some situations warrant carrying. Most do not. If a level headed, law abiding, and
mentally stable citizen feels the need to carry, I'm ok with that, but don't overstate the need for one. I've known buttloads of folks including many senior citizens and people who have died of old age who have never carried and never once in their entire lives needed to.
It comes down to risk vs. reward. If your often in dangerous situations, probably a good idea to have one. If your situation is not that dangerous, and say you have a bunch of kids around all the time..that gun probably has a greater chance of doing harm than good.
If you live in an apartment with five other independent people, your chances are probably greater of shooting one of your roomates coming home late, or unannounced, or something, than they are of shooting a would-be intruder.
What are your risks from carrying?...What are your rewards?...
Don't knock somebody because their risks outweigh their rewards and they decide not to carry....and by the same token, don't knock somebody if their rewards outweigh the risks and they do carry.

Man, I didn't realize that carrying a gun was a requirement for Indianapolis.
I'll add that to the list of places to *never* go. I'll put it right under Cleveland.

Hey Ninja Geoff,
Thats no practice blade...what do you suppose the "punishing daily use " is?
I would love to carry one of my rattan batons around in an easy-access spot on my bike, but I'm sure it is illegal as everything else is in California. I do carry a Leatherman around now and those blades can be nasty but it would take me 5 min of getting through my gear to access it.
Can those of you carrying weapons get to them quickly while riding?

"not needing to carry"
How about "not needed to defend" yourself. I've never needed to either. But I choose to be able to, and to defend myself very well should I ever need it. I haven't needed the fire extinguisher in the house yet, but we keep it handy. I've never needed...hah, take that back, I've needed the seatbelt when I rolled my truck. It's a good thing that in the times previous I never said to myself "gee, I never needed a seatbelt, I think I'll stop wearing it".
No one ever "needs" anything until the day they need it. I like to go on the saying "tis better to need it and have it than to need it and not have it". Spare tire anyone?

This issue should almost be a non-factor. Mainly because training says confrontations take place face to face and you don't really have any business to draw unless you are. It you can get away, you get away. That goes for on foot or in a vehicle. There aren't a lot of scenarios where you should be shooting while your riding/driving. Obviously a carjacking comes close, but that scenario is difficult at best to judge when to act.

This Ninja Sword is named after the infamous Ronin, a group of rogue samurai warriors.
WTF. Ninjas - Samurai. Two completely different castes. I'll have whatever he was smoking before he carried out his 'research'.
I bet it goes blunt in an incredibly short time and ends up notched like a cheap hacksaw after a few days of use!
As for the issue of getting to a weapon quickly, I believe most POlice Departments around the world have adopted the 21foot rule - can't remember the name of the Officer that worked it out. If your attacker is inside that distance, don't bother trying to draw because the probability is that they will be inside your arm length before you can aim and fire, at which point the gun is a liability.

Good catch, Ninjas and Samurais don't mix.
You guys should see the real samurai swords here. They're incredible! We bought a fake one down in Kyoto, but I think before we leave I'm going to surprise DH with a real one. They only start at about a couple grand each.

I thought they were all heritage items now, forbidden from sale etc?
I have a few Chinese fakes that are fun to play with, as I can pull moves I'd never pull off with a heavier, bulkier Western sword.

Just from a purely academical standpoint this is interesting.
Hmmm... if you were going to leave it on the bike you would need to hide it, maybe inside part of the fairing if there was room and it wasn't near any moving parts. Moisture and rust would be a pain though.
What I always thought would be cool, and illegal as ****, would be to mount some of my throwing stars on a bike.

Could just leave it out, Kill Bill style.

Pretend that's a sword. Footpeg would be removed, and a bracket could be mounted to the two bolts on the right side under the seat that are designed for my bike's grab bars (among other things).

That and the hard plastic sheath are what made me choose it

Nope. There are dealers all over the place. Some swords are the real old ones that were actually used, you can buy those, but you need to "get in the door" with a JPN friend. Some shops are just like the secret back room of a run down old house. Those guys have the best stuff. A friend of ours just bought himself an old one. He was taken to one of these back rooms by another friend. He is a JPN native and works on base (joint base) and is our liason of sorts for all things Japan.
The dealer shops do have stock or can get what you're looking for. Fakes, new real swords, and even the old real ones. Fakes run around $200-$800, real goes from there. One real old one was going for $30 grand
