Yeah well I really don't like sports bikes or Monday mornings but I don't cry about it

If someone pulls up next to me at a lite and I cannot hear my bike over theirs, I need louder pipes! Loud pipes were not an issue for me till I got a walkman.

Worst problem I had with loud pipes was explaining to one person that his Triumph was too loud. He just didn't get it he had no concept of sound just vibes. Never try to explain sound and noise to someone who has been deaf since birth. Took over a month to convince this person he needed baffles.

My biggest gripe is cities and states that enact noise ord. stricter than manufactures standards. A stock exhaust will not meet their standards. I have known several people who got noise tickets with stock exhaust in Colo.Spgs. on Harleys, Indians,dirt bikes and even on a Jaguar. They even ticketed the Symphony for noise while playing in the park! (that one never made it to court)

They will ticket a bike that exceedes the city noise standards but is legal statewide(COS standards are 83 dec at 25 foot, Colo. State was 86 dec at 50 foot for my 72 FL and according to State statues is Grandfathered in) and let loud stereos go. (in violation of both city and state noise standards ) It will cost you over $1000 in lawyer fees to prove that the city is in violation of state statutes with this ord. ticket is $50(most other cities w/noise ord. will not right ticket if unmodified stock exhaust)

Loud pipes were one of the main reasons why the city of Charleston SC, started to look into bike restrictions for downtown.

When the last Heritage Biker Rally occurred 2 years ago, (2006) hundreds of bikers rode the 20 miles from the Ladson Fair Grounds, where the rally was taking place, to visit historic downtown Charleston. People complained about the noise. The Mayor talked about bike restrictions. It gave the Rally some bad press. That, along with complaints about violence at the Fair Grounds led to the cancellation of last years rally. (2007)

In my option, most well-to-do’s who live downtown just didn’t like motorcycles running up and down their artsy and historic streets of Charleston. “Myrtle Beach is the biker town not Charleston.” That was the basic feelings of some people.


Don’t get me wrong about Charleston. It’s a great place to visit. There are a lot of bikers that live here. As well as dealers that sell and repair bikes. Harley, Honda, East Coast Ironhorse, American Biker, Cycle Gear, Kawasaki. A dirt track even opened up last year just outside of Summerville.

So come visit.

I love the Loud deep rumble, there is nothing better. It is nice to turn some heads.

I like everything stock. Everybody puts a " pipe " on their bikes. My question is why? Why must a 21 year old on a r1 sound like rossi from stop light to stop light? That kinda nonsense is what got europe into the " nanny state : it's in regarding motorcycles, licences, speed cameras, inspections....
