It's nice that you are concerned, but I find your lack of knowledge and propogation of stereotypes to be mildly offensive.
I believe that his concern was well founded. If a friend complains of a lack of ability to focus and then mentions getting a motorcycle he should be concerned. I find your willingness to come out swinging before fully understanding his post mildly offensive. What the hell brought that on????

I didn't come out swinging, I just pointed out that unfactual stereotypes about a medical disorder are offensive to me. ADD and ADHD are two very different conditions even though they share a common name.

On a very basic level it's harder for someone to focus in a static enviroment. Riding has to much changing stimulus for this to be an issue.

Furthermore, both conditions have components of OCD which particularly manifests itself in a fluid enviroment when experiencing positive stimulus. The condition forces you to focus on small details. This is why ADD/ADHD people are generally very good with their hands.

His post was based on common misperceptions and antiquidated thought on the subject matter. It's not entirely wrong, but most of it hasn't been the prevailing theory for over 3 decades.

IF you want to learn more about both disorders there is a fecundity of literature on the subject matter. Talk to a development specialist, read some articles or go to a lecture. I'm willing to venture that outside of a highschool psych class the poster has had no education in the subject matter.

ADHD is the reason my brother is not allowed out on his own on my parents jet skis or boats if he's not consistent with his medication. All that stimuli leads to overload for him and he can easily be distracted and overwhelmed.

It's a completely valid concern.

And that's happened so your taking the precautions to keep it from happening again?

Wow you went to a PRIVATE school? That school should be CLOSED. They couldn't even take the time to realize you were not getting the educational attention that you needed? What a farce. Your parent's money was wasted and you were cheated of the education you need to survive in this world. You will never get a job in the corporate world with your spelling. You should probably try to stick with being some sort of artist - that world might be more forgiving/understanding.

No. Absolutely not. If your spelling and grammar are bad, what an editor is going to do is toss your work right back at you. This is not theory; I count among my personal friends professional writers and editors (yes, including a poetry editor), I've gotten paid for my own writing more than once, and I can tell you with absolute certainty that that is the case.

Pick up a paperback AMERICAN HERITAGE dictionary and a copy of Strunk & White's ELEMENTS OF STYLE. (This will do in a pinch as a dictionary, but it's no substitute for a real, paper, one. You can find a very old edition of ELEMENTS OF STYLE free online here). Learn to use the former and read the latter.

Learn to use the language properly, or forget about writing anything other people will want to read. Period.

Both of these replies offended me to the extreme. This reply is for "orc4hire".For one thing, you know nothing about me; and from you’re typing it seems like you are some washed up journalist. Don’t "procreating" tell me what my editor does alright because you don’t have a "procreating" clue. If my editor tossed me my work back I would look for a new editor and say get the "fudge" outa my sight. I have numerous amounts of people who would love to read/edit my work before I presented it regardless of competition or just class work. So to come off so aggressive but you are really barking up the wrong tree. Yes it’s true maybe some editors would toss me my work back but that’s just something I am going to have to live with for the time being till my grammar/spelling gets better. No really I would love to see some of you’re work and than laugh at the fact that some one of you’re amplitude of experience was talking down on me. I am a poet not a nag. You sir are a nag.

This reply is to "MicheleZ". The first part of you're reply did not offend be but the fact you said that I could never do something pushes me to work even harder. It’s also people like you that can keep a person down and from excelling in life. You tell a person they can never do something and they don’t have any will left they wont.

Any one elese wana say somethin?

Gabriel-

With a fighting attitude like that and a hard work ethic I imagine you'd be able to go anywhere you'd like.

I really appreciate the comment thank you Steven. I too believe if a person wants something bad enough and has the will power to do it they can. Remember in life “ask what if”.

Yeah, post a piece of your work. I mean it is easy to pick on you when we have no idea what a great artist you are, but it will be much harder if your work is that fantastic.

But again, maybe you are unwilling to face the potential critical response you might get. But as an artist, you should be prepared for many more negative responses than positive.

But I can say if you decided not to share your creative artistry with us, it will be much harder to find your arguments valid. Why should you care? Because you seem to be spending a lot of time talking about it in this thread, that is why.

I am just bored at school and in the libary, I only jump on from time to time to reply than get off. ATM grammer might be very bad because rushing teachers are nearby. Anys ways I would be more than happy to share ALOT of my work VIA email or PM's I relize as a type of artist that you will get negitive feed back and some times alot of it. I have expiernced this first hand and you know what I happen to respect it. Does not mean that I will agree with it though. If you would like some of my work Just drop me you're email or just ask threw PM. I dont feel like getting flamed for my views over the forums. Some of my stuff can be very political and harsh to peoples feelings and I dont want to be rude in a way to people that cant understand that its just my oppinuion.

*wow sorry about my grammer atm gotta go for a while pce.* :frusty:
