Haha no I meant the Destroyer was about 30K msrp. And the 15K would go into a wheelie bar, an upgraded clutch, and different handlebars, rearsets, and a drag tire.

I was addressing your statement that a completely street legal M109 is just as fast as a Destroyer.

The Destroyer has 165+ HP and 97ftlb of TQ.

The Destroyer does a 3.1 0-60 while the M109 is 3.89. Still very good, but not the same.

1/4 Mile times on the M109 are around 12 seconds. The Destroyer is low 9's.

The Destroyer, though, is an out of the box drag bike, though. The M109 is meant to be ridden.



It'd be interesting to see what it would take to get a completely stock M109 from 127 to 165HP.

I bet you could do it cheaper than the Destroyer but not cheaply.

The Dealer in Joplin, MO had a drag V-Rod they built with Buell forks, front brake, and wheel. It was pretty cool and a conversion worth looking into as a street bike.

One was an 08 and two were 09's.


They have decent USD forks and twin rotor brake systems. Street Rubber. Decent torque.

Overall not a bad bike. They just weren't a "real" Harley.


They ought to take the engineer who designed the exhaust out back and beat him with rubber hoses until unconscious. It's abysmal.

The oil cooler also looks like crap.

With a little work, the bike could be really good:

Right on. On paper, the M109 appears to be faster than the street-legal Vrod. In reality, performance is very close and really comes down to rider skill.

Take into account the appearances of either bikes and I'll take the Vrod any day....No bias here though. :laughing:

It really is a shame when folks only look at spec sheets without actually testing a bike directly.

What looks good on paper may not translate into a better product in real life.


This was part of the problem with Buell. If you just looked at the spec sheets, the bike didn't look very appealing on paper. Ride one in real life, and it was a fantastic motorcycle.


There was also a ton of this in the debate about DSB. Spec sheets only tell part of the story.


No doubt about both the appearance as well as the construction. The M109 is a fine bike, but the build quality isn't even close to that of the V-Rod.

Ah you're right. I was looking at a site where some guy said he was running .5 faster on an M109 than on a Destroyer... Went and did some more research and you're right it is faster. I'm honestly amazed they managed that kind of time and speed with a 1300! Pretty impressive!

They don't turn worth a damn, but they do go fast in a straight line. :D

Yeah although it doesn't look so trick with it's blah looking black paint, the USD forks are supposed to be very good. The rear shocks as with most HD is a POS but the XR1200X supposedly addressed this issue.

Kinda sad considering it is styled after the XR750. :( One of the most iconic and one of the greatest bike HD ever built.

I don't care too much about that as that would be tossed in a nanosecond if I bought the bike. :laughing: Termi looks and sound great but putting a Pasta pipe on a HD just seems so wrong. :? Oh and the price! :shock:

Makes one wonder what Buell technology might make it's way into future offerings.


BTW, the team that created the XR1200 budgeted about $8M to develop the bike.

It ended up costing nearly $40M.

Buell developed the 1125R from a blank piece of paper for less than $10M. Think there might have been a little feeling of threat from the guy in charge of the XR1200 project.
