I live in a summer resort area, and there are rental scooters running around everywhere, mostly piloted by people with little or no experience. Very dangerous situation, as they always seem to find their way to the only stretch of hiway with a 50 mph limit, on which they scream along at maybe 35, sometimes riding triple, and weaving around.
No gear except the rented helmet.

I've got an $375 Arai that I think is a good helmet, It's really comfy and the vents work really well, but I friggin hate it. It kills my perephrial and I have a bigger blind spot with that damn thing than I do in my car... no matter how I crane my neck I can't even see my tail light (my bike sounds better without it too)

Nothing beat's the feeling of riding with no gear on a good day, I always ride with my full face, mesh, jeans, gloves, and boots.

That's my electrical system check, I've gotten in the habbit of checking to see if the tail light comes on when I pull the break because often that's the first thing to go down if there's a problem. That's not really the point though, I was just illustrating how sight limiting the helmet is.

That's what I thought. If you store the bike in the garage or somewhere where there's an object directly behind it, you can do all light checks from the saddle just by looking for reflections in your mirrors. You can always get off the bike and squeeze the brake levers and look at the light. You can't see the tail lights on your car, either, ya know.

A couple of days ago, a guy was getting his last bits of info after buying his new scooter As I pulled into the shop I use. He eyed my jacket, icon jeans, helmet, boots, gloves (I was starting to wonder about him) and my seemingly very large looking bike, then he rode right out into 50 mph four lane traffic...no gear of any kind, happy as a clam with his new bike. Go figure.

Man, somethings gotta be made of brass to put a dent like that in a tank. Ouch. I hope you've already had all the kids you wanted.

LOL, wow did you ever miss my point... even after I told you what it was

anyway, yeah I've always wondered why it's however taboo it is to ride a motorcycle without gear, but somehow I guess scooters never fall over (have you ever seen an ad for a scooter picturing the rider in any gear?)
