Thank you high_side. Memories. You must have been there earlier in teh year than I was. The only snow was around the top, and it was very little.

Those pics were taken at the end of June. I have been caught in a complete white out blizzard on that pass on the 10th of July though. You never know what you are going to get up there....

Out on Vancouver Island we have a number of great motorcycle roads. One of the best to challenge your skill in the twisties is the road from the Inland Highway up to the Mount Washington ski lodge. The pavement very good and there are some great views from several areas. At the top is the lodge which houses Fat Fredies Pub. Great place to go for lunch and enjoy the spectacular scenery. The speed limit is low but most motorcyclists ignore that especially the sport bike crowd as the police rarely patrol up there. The usual warning applies "if you don't know the road take it easy".

Damn. I was out there this past summer and I rode everywhere BUT to Mount Washington. My sister-in law even works there and I didn't go..... Is it better than the road to Gold River? That has to be one of the better ones. You will likely recognize the area in a few of the pics in my blog.

It's much shorter of course but definitely a better road. The Gold River road is great as well. Good scenery, lots of twisties etc. but the pavement is uneven in places and gravel gets out onto some curves where cagers cut the inside of the curve and kick out gravel from the shoulders. I think the Gold River road is listed as number three or four in the BC section of Destination Highways Guide. Thanks for the invitation. Did you ride to Gold River this summer? The pavement was brand new this year if I recall. I was impressed, but then I am from the praries

As we call it in Campbell River "The Gold River Run" and I was out there 7 or 8 times this season, the last at the end of September. The section along Upper Campbell Lake is the worst area for uneven pavement and tar lines. Some sections have been paved recently. In September they were tearing up areas closer to Gold River to be repaved. In November with the heavy rain, a section of road fell away and slid down the hillside. Gold River was cut off for a few days until temporary repairs were completed. Hopefully all repairs will be completed by spring and the road ready for the next riding season. Cheers Rydr
