Okay, so it's fairly obvious that we're never going to change each others minds. And I for one am willing to agree to disagree. So what say we give up on the threads before we start name calling and stuff?

I must admit that this is an issue I'm very short-sighted on

I completely agree that evolution describes the development of creatures in the world as it is today as the structure of dna supports, and it is a logical inference of what we have learned

(it is important to note that in general science is the based around Inferring knowledge, then trying to disprove your theory - NOT about absolute knowledge from observation) without a million years or so, to test darwin with some genetic studies, it is hard to disprove.


However I fundimentally believe that it is an important part of education, as it teaches kids to use there brains (pretty rare nowadays), not to just be told things to write in there exams




My beliefs in this are irrelevant from this perspective, but i will list them so you can qualify my views on this:

1. I personally find the theroy of evolution logical
2. I also acknowledge that it only shows the current state of the world, and says nothing about how everything began (DNA is critical to both arguments) Intelligent design covers the beginnings of life, evolution the adaption of life
3. however much i try, I am short sighted because I personally find it difficult to make the leap of imagination/faith to intelligent design, even though there is much to support it as a starting point

Life would be so damn boring if everyone believed the same thing and never shared their opinions. I think our brains would "devolve" from lack of intellectual stimulation... None of us have dedicated our lives to this topic so it is sortof ridiculous for us to be arguing about it. Much of the anti-evolution literature out there is based on false assumptions. It is very easy to see how people will make any kind of argument, supportable or not, in order to further their beliefs.

I just think all people are guilty of this. Scientists included.

I will say one thing, I love it when these debates emerge on the forum because they make me dig out old science, and creation texts, and also research what is currently out there on the 'net.

As I stated, there are simply things about evolutionary theory which don't make sense to me. Does it matter? Probably not. Even if I read every scrap of evidence for evolution, I probably still wouldn't understand it. (Sortof like the U.S. tax code) Oh and I'd probably want to gouge my eyes out after.

It's because it doesn't matter, though, that it really makes me wonder about the insults people will hurl (in both directions.) To be honest, our behavior makes alot more sense if you believe that we are imperfect links in an evolutionary chain that will continue long after we are gone.

I suppose to sum up, unbiased and uncritical answers, given with a little patience, are more likely to get the point accross, no matter how ignorant the question may seem to be.

P.S. I do think there is something to this evolution theory. For example, I can demonstrate how a Ducati 999s evolved from a simple vacuum tube. (the 50cc 'cucciolo' clip-on engine being the mysterious "missing link") Maybe I should publish a paper...

Come on - the Creation Science Link looks like it was written by 8th graders. Go look at the astronomy section. There are three pages of text, one of them in like 36 .pt type and it's full of ridiculous suppositions and there's no physics whatsoever. What thinking person could accept any of this tripe as proof of or a rebuttal of anything? Seriously. It's a freaking comic book fer chrissakes. For instance it points out that 'evolutionists' can't explain the orbit of one of saturn's moons. Why the hell would a biology teacher be remotely concerned with the moons of saturn ? It completely eludes me why otherwise intelligent people would even give a half-baked weppage like this a second look. There's no science there and it's completely juvenile reasoning.

I'm gonna go look into the pagan thing.

Amen, Brother Kal, my sentiments exactly! However, threads like this do make for informative (and sometimes entertaining) reading.

That's an oldie but a goodie. Considering the treatment the golden retriever gets at our house I'd say the answer to that joke's question is a yes. I buy her food, she sleeps on my bed and I walk around with a bag of her feces in my hand!

Oh, I'm not very religious - my beliefs are that we should take care of one another and love our neighbors... even if we don't like 'em.

You forgot to mention that she loves you unconditionally . And that's the relationship that everyone should have with their higher power . Regardless of ones belief system .

That's the truth. Dogs are weird... I didn't want one and my wife did - now I don't know what I'd do without her.
