I have now uninstalled the AVG free version. It was almost as bad as the trial pay for version.....
I guess it is just incompatible with my system.

I am now trying Trend-Micro. They also have a trial version....

the only time avg should give you any problems is when its doing a "scheduled" scan. My guess is you didnt set the scan to run when you were not at the computer but instead had it set to run while on the computer. All anti virus will slow down your computer when scanning your computer.

It wasn't when scanning......It was making my computer get hung up and freeze.
Once I uninstalled it it got better.

I need to see this computer cause it seems like you have more issues than just anti virus throwing it off. I use avg and it doesnt use a % of my cpu power when idling. I have a feeling you still have some of the norton process's/program still installed and running because that could cause issues with other anti virus programs.

Thank you. I will do a search and see if there is any more Norton lurking behind the scenes.

I have been looking but am having a hard time finding the answer I am looking for which involves registry values that need to be removed. Best I have found so far is

Question regarding computer networks

Hello all you network administrators. My inquiring mind has a question.

Why do the computers in an office run so slow, or get the never ending hourglass, or always freezes up and then logging out and logging back in is neccesary?

This is what the system is like where I work. It is so frustrating trying to do a good job and work efficiently when the computer system is so bad.

Is it because the server is too small? We are on a network and the help desk is in the USA.....(Our office is in Canada)

Yesterday the system crashed and we all had to sit and twiddle thumbs while they figured out what to do.

The company sunk a lot of money into creating this new entity but so far they have proved very inept.

Possibly too many unnecessary background applications are running taking the system resources and can be a pain with an underpowered system. Are you getting the hour glass when accessing a program or when trying to load a web page or sending files through the network?

sending files through the network. simple things like editing an entry creates slowdowns.

As you said, it's probably underpowered for how many computers are on the system.

Its probably more likely a network infrastructure issue than a server size issue.
