Sadly, this is the second time around for me, I actually quit for 10 years then foolishly started up again. Going cold turkey, was thinking about going on the patch, but after reading the potential side effects, namely heart attacks (which given the stress of my work, is a very real concern) opt to do without them. However, I am going thru at least a pack or two of Fisherman Friends (one lemon and one extra strength) per day....but then again, I was doing that before anyways.JackoftheGreen wrote:ceemes wrote:Starting week six as a non-smoker, no longer wish to brutally murder and dismember people, however if you have someone you need beaten within an inch of their life............![]()

Way to go Ceemes! Carrie and I just hit one year back on Halloween, and I can tell you it gets easier. Hang in there, it is SO worth it.
Are you using any sort of nicotine replacement products? Patches, gum, whatever? Or just quitting cold?
What did you do today...

Re: What did you do today...
Whatever you gotta do, gum or lozenges or mints or anything are all better than having a relapse. I dunno if you're into herbal remedies or medicine, but saffron and St. John's Wort are both great for controlling mood swings and anxiety.
On another note, Carrie and I took what I sure hope wasn't the last ride of 2013, but sure might have been. We went in search of Fall leaves, but I think we missed the boat on that one unless we scoop them off the ground. (-: I wore a balaclava under my helmet for the first time this ride, and let me tell you it was AMAZING! The extra padding alleviated the 'hot spots' inside my helmet, kept my face and neck warm and, pleasure of pleasures, tamed my hair so the end of my ponytail wasn't whipping around in my face. If you've ever had your face whipped mercilessly by your hair, I can't recommend the balaclava enough. Lucky me, Carrie knits, so I'm going to have her make me a real lightweight one for the summer. It'll be great. She's also going to make me a big braided novelty beard that will button to the balaclava, just a goofy little adornment I think will be a lot of fun. Pictures will be in order of course.
I'm going to add this post to my blog as well, please forgive the double-posting. Happy riding!

Re: What did you do today...
I fell off a swing.
I was at the playground with my 7 year old nephew and my sister. My nephew and I were swinging on the swings...quite high and fast...
I was letting the swing slow down in preparation of getting off the swing, but I lost my grip and the swing swung out from behind me while I was still up quite high...face plant/chest plant...as soon as I realized I was falling I just let it happen...if I had tried to stop it I probably would have broken an arm...I'm not sure if I broke a rib or not....if I'm still in this much pain tomorrow I'll get it checked.
At first I thought I just got the wind knocked out of me...but as the day has progressed I'm hurting more.
I should stick to the Apollo Spinner....

Goodness Blues, be careful with yourself. You gotta last us, you're the only one we get.
We had my oldest daughters 10th birthday party today, she wanted spaghetti for her special birthday dinner so that's what she got. (-: She's also really into pigs, so Carrie made a ridiculously cute pig-in-the-mud cake...
...and we all stuffed ourselves on pasta and chocolate. Just rolling around in the aftermath now, good times.

Hey..spaghetti was always my request for my birthday when I was a kid. My Dad made awesome sauce.
Great cake.
I bet you parents had as much fun as the kids.
Thanks, JotG....you know how many times over the years I have been on swings and never a mishap....as least not since I was 17.
That was the last time I hurt myself on a swing .. I got a huge whack in the head then ... bled like crazy...I had to go to school the next day with matted hair.
Great cake.

It was a puttering day.
Then this evening went to see a movie.
Escape Plan. It was highly entertaining.

Updated my Avatar!! Woot!!
Amazingly enough, it was actually HOTTER when I took this picture than the previous Avatar. Hard to do, but we pulled it off. Sometimes, Las Vegas is the only answer.

Re: What did you do today...
Went back to work. Got the ok from the doctor. So after 81 days of medical leave I'm back at it. And man did the heat luck my a$$. Lol. Need a few days to get back in the swing of it.
Full sized pay cheque will be nice though. 60% doesn't go far when the spousal support and child support remain the same. Lol.

Re: What did you do today...
Carrie and I got back on the weight loss horse today! Very excited to be working out again, we were both doing so well going into the summer this year but then sorta last our momentum. But today we got back into it, got up early and went for a bike ride (bicycle even!) a couple miles long in the rain. We've been dipping a toe into the house hunting scene, sick of paying rent yaknow, and for our ride we pedaled over to a house our realtor showed us over the weekend to take a second look. Beautiful place, newly renovated with an elementary school for a neighbor, two car garage with enough extra space for the bikes (the motor kind in this reference) with an RV pad and a back yard big enough for the dogs and, god help me, the pot-bellied pig my oldest daughter has her heart set on.
We wont be buying until the Spring though, so that particular place likely wont still be available. But it's significantly under the budget we're shooting for and still big enough for us, so that bodes well for the rest of the house hunt. Now if the market will just stay right where it is for six more months. (-:
