I took a humongous bag of new socks (from the sock drive I did at work) to the charity that helps the homeless and others living in poverty.

I worked, I found out a friend passed and even though he was not the closest of friends I feel a profound loss. He leaves behind a young family and thats sad. The thing that gets me so down is I live in the richest country in the world and in 2010 John lost his business and health ins. He let a thiroid problem go because he couldn't afford to get it corrected. Now his 3 daughters want for Christmas that which can not be given. I don't know sometimes it seems so we have lost our way. I am grateful that I have my health and my business is stable for the moment so it's not all bad. Folks look at your loved ones tonight and hug em tell em ya love tell em every night cause we gotta find our way again, and ya never know.
Sorry for the whine but I had to get that out.

Sorry for your loss. Yes, I believe a lot of countries have lost their way. They seem to run by big corporations whose only concern is how much money they made. We are so fortunate here in Canada to have health care for cheap.
This is the soap box....we're allowed to whine.

I shrink wrapped some windows in my place. It's warmer already.
I think it will make a big difference in helping with heating costs over the winter.

I put Christmas lights around the whole garage roof; plugged the lights into a timer so they come on and go off automatically.
I had to splice a new outdoor cord so it could be outside. The outlet is inside the garage but the lights are outside....so...cut the cord...threaded it under the soffit and through the hole in the wood behind the siding....then on the inside, spliced the cord so it plugs inside. I even got matching electrician tape.
I did some garden cleanup and dug a big hole to put in a huge hosta root. Heck that thing was heavy. It had been sitting in a bin and it collected a lot of rain and then froze. The bottom half was solid ice.
I plunged a drain and now it runs freely again.
And now.... enjoying a cup of tea and mandarin oranges.

Wow Blues, that's a lotta work in a day. Getting stuff done.
We went out and got another budgie, we're up to seven now (in addition to two zebra fiches and three 'tiels). The birds are a lot of fun, it's a particular kind of pleasant to have morning coffee in a house filled with birdsong. I think we're about done, just need one more male 'tiel and one more male budgie. The finches are a proven pair, and after the holidays we're going to set them up for breeding and see where that goes.
Christmas shopping is all done, overnight temperatures have been between 0 and 5 degrees all week and this last snowfall isn't going to melt any time soon. We're good and truly into winter. Bad Romance and PowerSlave are under their winter covers, and I'm all pouty about it. (-:
