My MSF instructor's refered to it as the right of weight. You might be within your rights legally to go. But that doesn't make the car doing something illegal in front of you weigh any less, or cause it to be any less deadly when the two of you have an interaction.

I was coming home a few days ago and had the right of way for my turn. The so-called professional driver in the semi looked me square in the eye and made his turn in front of me anyway. I had to stop to avoid a collision and even though it rankled, I still gave way.
No way am I about to argue with a truck or any other larger moving vehicle.

An acquaintance was waiting to turn left and got hit by a pick up truck coming straight through.
He blamed the truck for running a later amber, but in actual fact, it was his fault.
It is our responsibility to avoid a crash. Just because a light turns green does not automatically give you license to go. the green means go...only if safe to do so. The acquaintance did not wait to make sure the truck was going to stop.
It was preventable.
