A nice January Ride 010507
Did you ever see that EDS commercial about herding cats, well getting this group together at a specific time sometimes can be just like that. We were going to leave at about 10 AM, then 11AM, and as it turns out we ended up getting on the road at noon. Today starting off we had Paul, Anna, and John. We met them down at the Legion and took off from there to head towards Joe Pool to have a bite to eat and then head south. It was not long before the ride stopped. While we were at the legion John mentioned that he needed gas and was going to get some while we rap up at the Legion. I mentioned that it would not hurt for me to top off and Paul said that he needs some also so we take off and hit the hwy. I was wondering why John did not stop at a gas station but I figured he had enough to go part of the way down. Well we are headed East on 114 then Paul blows by Val and I and then as we are entering 360 South he does the same to John and Anna. As it turns out he signaled to John that he needed gas and he took off faster then the rest of us. We pasted one exit that had a gas station, but Paul did not see it and was not familiar with that area. Then Paul exits at an intersection that does not have gas. Val thought he was going to abort the trip for what ever reason and I agreed. Well John follows Paul and so I decide to do the same. Mental note: We need to work on our communications as we did not see him signal he needed gas and had John not pulled off we would have blown past him thinking he decided to abort the ride and go back home. At the bottom of the hill Paul is pulled over and announces that he is bone dry out of gas. This is him trying to explain himself and Val does not believe a word of it. Her expression is priceless.
Here is a few pictures of the area since John and Anna took off to get some gas I thought I would take some shots and oh, natured called so I went for a walk. There is a golf course in the back ground.
Here is one across the street. "Yes Paul that is were the gas goes!"
I decide to take my walk and now Val has the camera so I guess she decided to take a picture of our bike with a new addition of the Teddy Bear.
Of course she cannot let a man have a private moment.
Too many cars so I take a hike to the woods. She had the camera on zoom as I am about 75 yards from them in this shot. You can see the woods I am back from.
Once I get back John and Anna quickly show up with the gas in a to go cup. They tried filling another type of cup up but the gas ate through the material. Here is the group pouring what was left in the cup into Paul’s tank.
After pouring about 6 ounces of gas into the tank I need to question what was he looking for.
Well we get him started and running. We stop at the next intersection to get gas. Man that was a fiasco as well. I put in my first credit card and it asked for a pin number and I do not use my cards like that so I cancel the transaction. Most sane places ask you if you want to use credit or debit, but not this crap hole. So after I stick my debit card in and finally get it to take the card it too asks for pin number which I am cool with since this is a debit card. Well when I try to hit enter the system would not take me hitting enter. By now I am frustrated and a little pissed. So I go walking in the gas station and hand the guy a 10 and he says how much. I said I am on a motorcycle you big jackass and that I am going to fill it up and I do not know how much. I will come get the change when I am filled up. He put a 10 limit on the pump, damn I have a motorcycle dude and I only need 1 gallon of gas it will not hit more then 3 bucks. He could hardly understand English which also pisses me off. Anyway Val asks if she should get the change as she can see I am red faced and I agree. She comes out with the change and an explanation of why the cards did not work. The dump arse told her we need to use the cards in the store. I wanted to go in there and throw him in the street but thought better of it. So off we go and finally get to Joe Pool lake and the marina. This next picture of us in the parking lot and we were discussion rather we could leave our helmets unlocked on the bikes and I said yes, but then under the white Harley pictured in front I noticed a chrome helmet on the ground so now I know it is safe. May the helmet was cool but I sure would hate to ride behind that dude.
The lunch was fair but worth it and Philip and Steve showed up. Here is 50% of the group and heck it is 230PM.
We get on the road around 330 PM and go to a park. The park would not let us just ride around and wanted 5 bucks each so we said the heck with them and rode off. Man sometimes you just want to get out and slap someone. We ride awhile and Val starts to get monkey butt so its time for a cold one. I notify Paul who passes it on up and then John takes the lead. We go past this topless place and Philip is like hey let’s top here, most of us shake our heads no, but we knew he was kidding only. We had two ladies with us. After we pass a couple more adult related places we pull into the place and the first thing I ask John before even shutting off my bike is “this is not some type of topless place is it?”. The building is white with bars on the windows and he replies that this is where his daughter plays pool in armature but stiff competition. Now that perks me up as I enjoy pool and I feel I am fairly decent at it as well. I need to meet her and shoot a game. Anyway we go in after a few pictures. The place is very friendly and a diverse age group.
Here we are in the parking lot.
And again.
Well we are inside now having a beer and the fingers behind Steve is Val.
Val mentioned that my mom wanted more pictures of the two of us in this blog so someone tells Val to get on my lap while Steve takes the picture. Now the chair I am on has a soft bottom which makes this not so comfortable and on his first attempt the picture did not come out so we had to do it again. So mom here you go.
Philip and Paul decide to shag (that means haul arse back home and the rest of us kind of take it a little slower going back north. We had a great tail wind so it was a very comfortable ride back and easy. I meet up with Paul and Philip and Brandon at Paul’s house and we discuss religion and such which one should not do but we all shook hands and hugged as we left for the night. It was a great fire as usual.
Keep the wheels on the road.
