Another Great day in December - 12-21-07

Today being Friday we had a few more riders and with cold weather headed our way we decided to seize the moment and go for a ride. Val even wanted to go. We did a lot of riding though not very many miles. I think I racked up about 75 miles for the day. Anyway as the group grows so does the time it takes to get the turtles rallied up. I was supposed to meet Jim and Dennis at the Legion between 1115 and 1130. Jim then said he may be a few minutes late, but I went down there thinking Dennis would be first. As it turned out both showed up right around 1130 and we were ready to go. Jim rides a scooter so we take back roads 99% of the time. Here is a shot of him and Dennis in front of the Legion.

We then head down towards the River Bottom Pub to meet Paul and Gail. Here is a shot of us inside the pub. The house bought us a round of Christmas beers which since we have only just started meeting there from time to time I thought was quite nice of them.

Here is a shot of out side the pub. Paul & Gail in the back ground and Jim and Dennis more towards the front.

Dennis was kind enough to take a shot with me in the picture.

We then head towards my house to pick up Val. We are now about 30 minutes behind schedule persay since when we ride we have a very flexible schedule.
We decided to head south towards Joe Pool Lake to have lunch down by the Marina. Normally we would take Hwy 360 but we decided to take the side roads which instead of me grabbing my maps we decided to try it by memory. Well that begins the first mistake. I ended up taking a right hand turn way too early to start the trek south off of Trinity and after that it was wing it time. After taking a bunch of turns and asking a bunch of people where Joe Pool Lake was we never did find the Marina. One observation, just because you are within 2 miles of a place does not mean the locals know where it is. Man we had more mis-directions then I could count so we then decide to head towards Mansfield where Paul and Gail live. The choice came up as Chilies or On the Boarder for lunch. I said Chilies thinking it had the best mix of food. At first Paul was going to take us to a local place that does not serve beer and we put that idea down. We eventually find Chilies with Gail at the lead. Women seem to know how to get to places better then us or at least I since we never did find the marina on Joe Pool Lake.
I later learned that Paul does not care for Chilies so I asked why was it an option and I learned that Gail likes Chilies (which I was grateful for). Nothing against On the Boarder but I was not in the mood for Mexican. By this time it is getting late so Jim, Val and myself decide to head further up north while Paul, Gail, and Dennis decide to meet Anna over at Post 516 in Fort Worth. Val and I were tempted but decided to just take it on home. Man the traffic up Cooper was a bit busy. Jim decides to take Division down to Collins. I was sure messed up on where I was again. I thought (because of the signs by the way) that Cooper was 157 and it is down south, but then you need to detour to Collins which is then 157 more up north. So we took the detour route and when we hit Collin/157 no sign of Jim. I think he may have been ahead of us, but we will never know. So an end to another great ride day with great friends. The original Ole Boars had to work. Again I wish you all a Happy Holiday season and a Merry Christmas.
Here is a picture of us outside the Chilies in Mansfield. I did not do a very good job as Val and Gail are infront of the rest.

I did a little better with this one.
