So, who uses non-motorcycle oil in their bikes?

Tom,
I had a 92 Sentra - that thing would not die. During a tropical storm in Houston (not Allyson for those of you from H-town), I found it w/ the hood about a foot under water. It still ran fine - even with a shorted ECU. $300 later, it ran even better. I regularly tested the rev-limiter, yet she persisted. I had to sell it so I could get another Camaro b/c it just won't die on me! In hindsight, that was a stupid move - it got 37mpg on the highway.

Lol those Sentras are tough, my sister's 94 ran well she sold it shortly after the 1st oil change to my buddy, it was running fine (just a puff of smoke here and there) until his wife wrecked it.

I use Mobil-1 10w40 for motorcycles, and a K&N oil filter (handy 17mm nut welded to the end of the filter for uber-easy removal). I only change the oil twice a year...once in Spring when I first get it out of storage, and once in early Winter when I'm putting it away for the season. The reason I use only motorcycle oil is because a new clutch runs about $700-$1,000 and the anti-friction modifiers in car oils will cause your clutch to slip. If you insist on being cheap, AutoZone carries a line of motorcycle and ATV oil that runs ~$2.50/quart, though it's petroleum based. Otherwise switch to full synthetic bike oil and save money how I do...only two changes per year.
